EVENT DESCRIPTION
Roots, Rock, & Deep Blues presents:
The Iguanas / Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound
Join us for a funky, soulful musical gumbo tastefully seasoned with New Orleans, Afro-Cuban, Caribbean, and Mexican-Americana sounds as two “Under the Canopy” favorites – The Iguanas and Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound – return for their annual visit to the Twin Cities.
New Orleans, Louisiana’s favorite sons, The Iguanas, bring the diverse sounds of their hometown’s fusion of blues, Latin, Zydeco, Cajun, Tex-Mex and Roots Rock for a return visit to the Hook & Ladder.
Based out of New Orleans for the past couple of decades save for a short, Katrina-imposed exile in Austin, the members of The Iguanas have (collectively or individually) played or recorded with everyone from Charlie Rich, Alex Chilton, and Willie DeVille to Emmylou Harris, Allen Toussaint, and Pretty Lights.
Through eight studio albums, countless tours and Jazz Fest appearances, their two-decade ride has taken them all over the map musically and geographically, yet the inescapable patina of their hometown infuses every note they play.
“Like the Meters and the Neville Brothers, The Iguanas fuse those many styles into a rock and roll funk.”– The Houston Press
Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound bring forth a funky, lyrically charged performance that sits comfortably with soulful sounds the world over. Intricate but free-swinging, explosive yet intimate, fresh and green as grass. Taking cues from the dance bands of western Louisiana (and his native Midwest), the streets (and 45’s) of New Orleans, touring African and Caribbean combos and the soul, funk & blues of his youth coupled with early, teeth-cutting experience in the verbal hotbeds of the coffeehouse scene, Paul Cebar is a masterful synthesist of rhythmic culture.
The Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2023. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by Star Tribune readers.
