Church of Cash
w/ Mary Cutrufello
Since forming in 2009 in Honolulu, Hawaii, Church of Cash has steadily forged a reputation for excellence. The band, which relocated to Minneapolis a year later, made it clear early on that channeling Johnny Cash was anything but a vehicle to gain instant notoriety. Cash, choirs, and rock ‘n’ roll reign supreme. So, when Jay Ernest steps in front of a microphone he embodies the true artistic spirit of the man he reveres.
Saint Paul-based Mary Cutrufello has been hailed as a Texas honky-tonk heroine and a fiery Midwestern heartland rocker. Connecticut-raised and Yale-educated, Mary Cutrufello spent the 1990’s in Texas, where her hard-driving honky-tonk style won her a loyal following, as well as kudos from the local media and such Texas legends as Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver, Joe Ely. She also made 2 appearances on “Austin City Limits”, a spot on “The Tonight Show”, and toured with the Allman Brothers and Gov’t Mule, among others.
The Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2023. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by StarTribune readers.
The Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2023 season for our guests.
Come hungry and enjoy dinner with the show!
