Roland Faunte wrote his first song at 11 years old, claiming that if you pretended to be a snake for long enough, you would eventually become a snake. This message of self-determination turned out to be more prescient than he ever could have imagined. After his health collapsed at 19, he found himself at the whims of chronic disease. Having lost control of his thoughts and body, he lost faith in his ability to shape his life.

 

Over years of trying different treatments and rebuilding his spiritual infrastructure, Roland finally returned to that 11-year-old’s understanding: before we can become, we first have to believe. The science is not yet settled on whether or not this applies to becoming a snake, but we are free to find health and harmony in the meantime.
