EVENT DESCRIPTION
Twin Cities Borgen Bash
w/ Sky chime (McCalester student band), Green, Christian Marina Trio Rafe Carlson
Currently, 736 million people live in extreme poverty. The Borgen Project is an innovative, national campaign that works tirelessly to make poverty a focus of U.S. foreign policy.
The proceeds from this event will help us shape U.S. foreign policy for the betterment of humankind, deliver justice for the world’s poor, and work with leaders of the most powerful nation on earth to right the long-preventable wrong of 15,000 children dying each day from hunger.Sky Chime is a new Minneapolis group specializing in crafting the prettiest slow jams. The group is fronted by Peony Hildreth, who combines her lyricism with a gift for vocal melodies, sometimes delicate, sometimes soaring. Her vocals are complemented by guitarist Alex Schnellman’s beautiful chords, riffs, and solos, as well as melodic basslines from Jonah Esty and tasty drum grooves laid down by Tanner Lindahl. The band blends the sounds of rock, soul, R&B, pop, and even some prog rock, with solo sections full of improvisation, and memorable vocal melodies and flourishes. Fans of any genre can enjoy this band, so you won’t want to miss their set!
Green, is a south Minneapolis alternative band heavily influenced by the rock music of the 80’s and 90’s with a modern spin. Although the project came together during the summer of 2021, all the members have been friends and schoolmates for many years, and the chemistry is on full display.
Christian Moreno Cova is a pianist and composer from St. Paul, MN. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Moreno Cova has received acclaim for his innovative compositions and arrangements, bringing traditional Venezuelan influences into the modern jazz idiom. He holds a degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Along with bassist Dan Vopal and drummer Morgan Durfee, his group is no stranger to the Duluth and Twin Cities jazz scenes.
Rafe Carlson grew up in northern Minnesota in a family full of talented musicians and started making a name for himself as a performing artist in the Duluth/Twin Ports area. As he began to play in front of bigger and bigger crowds and playing at venues across the country, he turned his attention to songwriting. He met his producer in Nashville, Tennessee in May of 2021, and has since made dozens of trips down, writing with world-class Nashville songwriters, playing shows in the downtown area, and spending time in the studio recording his highly anticipated debut album. Rafe plays country, rock, and folk music while drawing inspiration from Chris Stapleton, Chris Cornell, and Bob Seger.
