SUMMARY:Bearly Dead (from Boston) with Mark Joseph with guest Mark Joseph
DESCRIPTION:RSVP ON FACEBOOK\n	\n\n EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 7:00pm :: Music 8:00pm \n\n21+ \n\nGA: $15 ADV / $20 DOS\n\n\n COVID-19 Policies\n	\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nBearly Dead (from Boston)\nwith guest Mark Joseph \nCalling all Deadheads\, vampires\, witches\, and ghosts….we invite you to celebrate Halloween night with us as Bearly Dead from Boston roll into town for a special party!  Costumes optional; but encouraged. \n \nNot just another Grateful Dead cover band\, Bearly Dead will take you on a cosmic exploration of the Grateful Dead catalog! The Boston-based quintet performs a concert-style show that celebrates the journey of the Grateful Dead from their earliest records until their final tours. They deliver a full-spectrum concert experience filled with danceable energy and world-class musicianship. Each and every Grateful Dead member is honored through a collection of classics\, b-sides\, deep cuts\, and exploratory jams. Holding true to the spirit of the music\, Bearly Dead frequently adds to their 250+ song catalog and continues to showcase authentic\, spontaneous improvisation – live and in-person – making each show a wildly unique Grateful Dead experience you do not want to miss.\n \nBearly Dead played their first show at Church of Boston\, in 2015\, marking the beginning of its hallowed Wednesday Night Residency. Over the next 5 years the phrase “Never Miss A Wednesday Show”became ubiquitous around Boston and Bearly Dead was nominated multiple times for Boston Music Awards Live Music Residency of the Year.\n \nFans really never knew what might happen; the band never knew what might happen! Bearly Dead shows have featured notable appearances by Mike Campbell (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers)\, Paul Wolstencroft (Slightly Stoopid)\, Steve Molitz (Particle/Phil Lesh & Friends)\, Kebbi Williams (Tedeschi Trucks Band)\, Rob Compa (Dopapod)\, Hayley Jane (Hayley Jane & The Primates)\, Richard James (Neighbor)\, and Johnny Trama (Dub Apocalypse) — and even a surprise appearance by Jerry Garcia’s “Wolf” guitar in 2018 on Jerry Garcia’s birthday! \n \nAfter becoming a staple in the Northeast US festival community with multiple appearances at Camp Creek\, Jerry Jam\, Strangecreek\, Wormtown\, and many more\, it was only a matter of time before Bearly Dead shows were being requested in all corners of the country. In October 2022\, the band saddled up a new van and began touring nationally\, performing their interpretation of the catalog across the United States and growing the Bearly Dead Family all along the way.\n \n—\nMark JosephAmerican Soul is a fitting brand for Mark Joseph; since his 2017 album by that title\, he has charted a relentless and soulful course through America\, and Americana\, from blues to country to psychedelic rock and everything in between.  On his newest offering\, “Palisade Peach\,” Joseph’s fourth full-length album\, he continues this journey\, from his soul\, straight to your heart. It is a “blues” album in the truest sense of the word\, with familiar 12 bar strains that echo the march of American music from the rural southern US up the Mississippi\, to cities like Minneapolis and Chicago where it found a wider urban audience; it is the blues that has given rise to “rhythm and blues\,” to “soul” and to “rock and roll.” You find it all on “Palisade Peach.”\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

The sound of Paper Star combines the subtlety\, darkness\, and experimentation of these acts\, but is also a more intimate and contemplative departure from his previous projects. With the help of Nik Eskola of the Teenage Moods and Dan Hornsby of True Green\, He introduces these songs to the stage for the first time.PAPER STAR is out October 22 2024 on Manic Static. \nCHA CHA 9 is a collaboration between Veronica Torres (Pill\, Mexican Summer/Dull Tools; P.E.\, Wharf Cat Records) and Andrew Jansen (Loud Sun). Their sound exists on the retro-pop spectrum with experimental and proto-punk influences. Torres applies her playful word-smithing with a tad of grit to Jansen’s angular and nostalgic guitar. They are joined onstage with a rotating cast of diy peers to fill out the live sound. \nCANARY ROOM \n“I’d ask you to remember it if I saw you.” The opening line of folk rock group Canary Room’s eponymous debut is a microcosm of songwriter Maddy Heide’s favorite themes. Precious memories are held between loved ones\, straining to maintain connection despite vast distances of land and time. While influenced by the forward thinking work of Joni Mitchell and Adrianne Lenker\, these songs create worlds entirely their own. A group of friends before they were a band\, Heide’s ensemble intuitively colors outside the careful lines she has crafted. On “Lake Effect”\, amid the flawlessly sensitive arrangement\, Heide lets us know her goal: “I wanted to take it all and give it all away.” Canary Room has generously done exactly that\, and we are all better off for it.~ Joan Kelsey \nTHE TRUE TWO \nDR DISTANCE + ONLINE.HAN SPINNING SONGS SPANNING DECADES MADE BY AND FOR REAL LOVERS \n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

SUMMARY:Belfast Cowboys "Giving Thanks"
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n RSVP ON FACEBOOK\n	\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 7:00pm :: Music 7:30pm \n\n21+ \n\nGA: $20 Advance  / $25  Day of Show\n\n\n COVID-19 Policies\n	\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nBelfast Cowboys “Giving Thanks”\n\n—–\n\nThe Belfast Cowboys are a nine-piece\, horn-driven band from Minneapolis that specializes in the music of Van Morrison – mixing rock\, blues\, roots and soul sounds.  They have become one of Minnesota’s (and The Hook & Ladder‘s) most popular bands.\n \nLed by veteran songwriter and guitarist Terry Walsh and powered by a four-piece horn section\, the Cowboys have flourished in the renowned Minnesota music scene\, and have consistently packed houses and wowed crowds since 2002.\n \nTerry Walsh got his start playing in various Twin Cities rock bands and toured as Slim Dunlap’s bass player in 1997\, opening for Son Volt. In 2001\, the idea to form a Van Morrison tribute band was formed\, and Terry spent the rest of the year learning Van songs and building an all-star band\, with Joe Loskota on keyboards and Vic Volare running the horn section. The band played their first show at the old 400 Bar on Saint Patrick’s Day 2002. \n\n \nMany musicians played with the band over the first few years\, and continue to do so today\, but the ‘A’ team was soon established: Dan Kowalke on guitar and backing vocals\, Joe Baumgart (bass)\, Dave Kirby and Dave Haugen (drums\, backing vocals)\, Joe Loskota(keyboards\, backing vocals)\, Paul Gronert (sax)\, Matt Hanzelka (trombone)\, Tim Martin (trumpet)\, Vic Volare (sax\, flute) and Terry Walsh (lead vocals\, guitar\, harmonica\, piano). \n\nThe band has expanded its content over the years to include rock and soul covers along with Terry’s own originals\, which have become fan favorites. Now a beloved staple in Minnesota\, the 9-piece Belfast Cowboys averaged over 120 shows a year before the pandemic. The bar-tested troubadours are known for playing epic sets at their weekly Minneapolis gigs and drawing large crowds to outdoor festivals. Occasionally they’ll venture beyond the Midwest to play Ireland\, Phoenix\, New York’s Times Square\, and once opened for the band Chicago in front of 15\,000 people.\n \n\n* A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Foothold Twin Cities\,  Over half a million people and children in Minnesota live below the official poverty line which often means that they are one surprise expense away from being homeless.  Foothold Twin Cities pays that expense for families who are referred by trusted sources.\n\n\n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Patti DeMay\, DGS\, The Johnny Sincerely Orchestra\, and Freaque w/ Director Alyssa Stormes\n\n \nCome celebrate a night of world premieres and single releases from five Twin Cities artists!\n \nFeaturing performances from Patti DeMay\, DGS\, The Johnny Sincerely Orchestra\, and Freaque with accompanying music video premieres from local director Alyssa Stormes.  Come to support the bands you know and stay to find a new favorite. Alyssa Stormes is a fiscal year 2024 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.\n \nFreaque explores the underbelly of corporeal experience. Songs and stories about decay\, decomposition and death being juxtaposed with eroticism\, relationship and life. Through a dark\, dank\, and dirty artistic voice\, Freaque tells stories of life blooming in the shadows and those lives taking shape in a myriad of bodies. \n \nThe Johnny Sincerely Orchestra incorporates elements of vaudevillian theatricality into their live shows\, creating what they call “Carnival RocknRoll”. Combining elements of European folk and music hall with hard hitting rock n roll and the blues\, they have created a sound all their own. This ragtag crew of orchestral misfits can be found playing their hearts out at a dim lit bar near you.\n“Johnny Sincerely has elements of a vaudeville showman who seems as though he would fit right in as a carnival barker\, an old parisian cabaret host\, or as a swaggering lounge singer.”\n \nThe Johnny Sincerely Orchestra are:\nPiano/Vocals: Johnny Sincerely\nGuitar: Sean Cosgrove\nBass: Joe Clark\nViola: Linnea Brashears\nTrombone: John Baumgartner\nPercussion: Aaron Isakson\n \nDGS (pronouns: they/them/theirs) has studied and performed the violin with many artists in multiple genres\, though their heart has always been drawn to creating something for themselves.\nPerforming on a five stringed instrument\, DGS has both violin and viola at their fingertips\, and the addition of live effects expands their sound palette even further. With a tap on the body of the instrument\, the violin transforms into a kick drum. A synth pedal shifts the octaves down into bass territory. Pizzicato in their hands is performed more like a guitar or mandolin\, and ambient reverbs create synth textures uniquely voiced by the instrument’s timbre. All of these sounds are created and recorded live into a looper to transform this one person into a string quartet\, a live band\, and many shades and combinations in between. \n \nThey invoke similarities to artists like Lindsey Stirling\, Nils Frahm\, and Hans Zimmer; The reflective and pensive ability of instrumental and classical music combined with the pulse and staying power of a Top 40 hit is a combination that inspires them most. Instrumental riffs lay the foundation while dense symphonic strings collide with dance-worthy beats. Melodies soar over top with earworm-worthy hooks while the sub octave bass roots and grounds the bottom end. \nDGS has a way of speaking through their music that captivates any and all who stop to listen. \n \nHi! My name is Patti DeMay. I’m a lyricist and singer. Music to me is like an emotional immune system for my mental health. There are moments in my life that are so overwhelming\, I’m compelled to turn those experiences into songs in order to make sense of myself. My astrological signs are as follows: Cancer Sun\, Taurus Moon\, Scorpio Ascendant.\n \nShout-out to Tom and Adolfo who have worked with me since 2020 to create my first solo album. They are incredible musicians\, composers and auditory engineers who helped me to turn my acapella musings into tasty tunes.\n \nAlyssa Stormes is a filmmaker and visual artist based in Minneapolis. Described as an artist for artists\, she loves making visuals for musicians\, arts organizations\, events\, and personal celebrations. This past year she’s worked with the Science Museum of MN\, Muslim American Society of MN\, the Minnesota Zoo\, Star\, the Mall of America\, Nintendo\, and Moonplay Cinema. She is a 2024 grant receipient of a Creative Individuals Grant from the MN State Arts Board\, a current panelist for the Gig Fund by Arts Midwest\, and has had 3 designs commissioned for public art projects through the Bus Stop Beautifiation Program through Metro Transit in 2023 and 2024. She holds a degree in Cinema from the University of Iowa\, and has an extensive background in both music and theatre. She’s recently directed music videos for Julia Brennan\, Patti DeMay\, The Johnny Sincerely Orchestra\, DGS\, and Freaque.\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Former frontman of Brooklyn-based Jus Post Bellum\, Wilson is also known for his multilayered looped saxophone performances and catchy podcast ditties (Terrible\, Thanks for Asking). On the band’s debut EP “Flowers\,” Wilson blends his idiomatic inspirations bridging folk\, soul\, R&B\, and country with a constant ear toward racial and social justice issues and the shared human experience. \n \n“In the EP’s deceptively sweet and warm title track\, he relays a memory of his mother ‘lighting candles and putting flowers on the boulevard’ in memory of another dead man of color. In the standout track getting airplay on the Current\, “Home to My Baby\,” he relays his personal fears of getting pulled over by police\,” writes Chris Riemenschneider of the Star Tribune. \n \nRecent acclaim for LAAMAR includes debut single “Home to My Baby” being named KAXE’s “Best Song” of 2023 and a nod as one of First Avenue’s Best New Bands. \n \n“With Flowers\,” writes Malachy Koons of KAXE\, “LAAMAR has crafted a stunning debut that does not shy away from difficult topics. The new EP features four instantly catchy songs\, with each taking a different approach to issues of racial and social justice.”\n \nThe band is working with Nat Harvie (Low\, Cole Pulice) on their debut full length\, tentatively planned for release this Fall. \nYonder is an emerging Minneapolis-based Alt-Americana band with a heavy edge. Leading ladies Hattie Peach (violin\, vocals) and Emma Jeanne (rhythm guitar\, vocals) began experimenting as co-writers in their Duluth dorm room years ago. Peach’s heartfelt folk storytelling and Jeanne’s punk rock sensibilities harmoniously blend in their writing. Joined by Oliver Gerber (Lapdogs) on lead guitar\, Dylan Hilliker (Greentop) on drums\, and Calvin Carrison (Big Delicious) on bass\, Yonder fuses influences from their previous local projects into a fresh\, eclectic sound. They’re set to soon release their debut EP\, Momento Mori. \nDrenched in the heartland spirit of Minnesota\, The Holy North is a musical force that blends the rootsy charm of Americana\, the soulful grooves of Blues Rock\, and the raw emotion of Alt-Country. The band is a tight-knit group of five musicians who share a passion for crafting music that resonates with the soul and speaks to the core of the American musical tradition. \n\nOnstage\, The Holy North is a powerhouse of energy\, captivating audiences with their infectious melodies and soul-stirring vocals\, and lyrics. The chemistry between the band members is palpable\, creating a dynamic live experience that leaves audiences yearning for more.\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Since then\, her catalog has grown to span the whole of the Americana music spectrum\, both writing original songs as well as interpreting the songs of others. She brings a soul-stirring musicality to her craft. Her honest and\, at times\, elegant voice immediately grabs one by the heartstrings. Not to mention as it turns out\, she is also an exceptional electric guitar player. \n\n \nMcNally has fourteen albums to her name and a string of single self-releases on her personal label\, Queen Maeve Records. Her latest album\, “Live At Dee’s\,” is a career retrospective song list captured over four nights in September of 2022 with a revolving band of Nashville musicians. Showcasing McNally’s wonderful storytelling and sense of wry humor\, the 18-song disc captures her at her most relaxed in her natural habitat of neighborhood Honky Tonk.  \n\n \nFor those who have followed McNally’s twenty-plus-year career\, the thing that sticks with listeners the most about her is the timeless effortlessness she brings to all she does. With an impressive catalog and extensive list of collaborators with whom she has written\, recorded\, and toured; McNally continues to turn out great music across wide-flung ends of the spectrum\, defying genre-fication. At home on any stage\, from Lincoln Center to the juke joints of Mississippi—she always brings the house down.\n\n \n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Evening concerts led by Village co-founders and touring songwriters Annie Humphrey & David Huckfelt (formerly of The Pines) will follow community art workshops led by Village artist and organizer Shanai Matteson. Concerts will open with a mini-fashion show featuring designs by Annie Humphrey and Terri “T- Bazz” Laduke. Music will be accompanied by videos & multimedia art activations\, the contributions of guitarist and producer Jeremy Ylvisaker and other guest artists. \n \n\nFire in the Village is a new arts collective led by Humphrey (Leech Lake Reservation)\, Huckfelt (Minneapolis\, and Matteson (rural Aitkin County). The goals of the group are to create art and culture experiences in small communities and cities to remind people that we are made of earth\, and we are power. These concerts and workshops center on themes of shared connection with land and water\, the importance of free thinking and creative expression\, and care for our communities in tumultuous times. “Our Fire in the village tour brings music\, storytelling\, visual art and an all-inclusive spirit. The purpose of this tour is to gather and create together\, so that we will recognize the very realpower that is within each of us.” said Village artist Annie Humphrey.  \n\nAnnie Humphrey\nGrowing up on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation in Northern Minnesota\, Annie lived in a home filled with voices made of thunder and nothing could stop it.  Her parents were brilliant people individually.  Her father\, a singer and musician and her mother an artist and poet.  Together they made sadness.  Each of her parents taught Annie the beautiful things they knew.  They showed her that she carried their gifts in her hands too.  This is how creating art and music came about for her.  This is  what saved her.  This is how she lives now.\n \nDavid Huckfelt \nDavid Huckfelt is a singer/ lyricist /activist and founding frontman of Minneapolis indie-folk cult favorites The Pines.  An Iowa native and former theology student\, Huckfelt attended the Iowa Writers Workshop before turning his attention to songwriting and performing.  With improvisational mastery\, Huckfelt’s shows and songs of no-spiritual-surrender have earned him a devoted following from small-town opera houses & theaters to national festival stages like Hardly Strictly Bluegrass\, Edmonton and Calgary Folk Fests\, and the legendary First Avenue mainroom\, sharing stages with Mavis Staples\, Emmylou Harris\, Bon Iver\, Calexico\, Trampled By Turtles & more.  An early encounter and collaboration with radical Native American poet John Trudell introduced Huckfelt as friend & partner to an array of Indigenous artists & activists including Winona LaDuke\, Louise Erdrich\, & Keith Secola\, working for climate justice and tribal sovereignty under the banner of music + resistance.  With roots in the same fertile Midwestern soil that produced legendary folk singers like John Prine and Greg Brown\, David’s new solo work preserves a rugged optimism that blasts through layers of dark in real time with songs that speak volumes\, soft & clear.\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
