All killer no filler. RuDeGiRL is a fiery female tribute to The Clash. Garage rockers Mary Strand & The Garage celebrate the release of her new album I Don’t Need Your Permission (Hygh Tension Records (TLG)/Virgin Music Group). Neil Young’s Vapor Records alumni The Customers return with a vengeance of their own. And The Silent Treatment delivers fast\, loud punk sounds as subtle as a car accident.—Mary Strand & The Garage\nRising garage rocker Mary Strand’s second album\, I Don’t Need Your Permission\, explores themes of empowerment\, especially from a woman’s perspective. Mary’s music has been variously described as alternative rock\, punk\, post-punk\, power pop\, and/or plain old indie rock\, but her mix of sounds is no accident. Mary simply loves rock and roll. All of it.\n \nMary will be celebrating the release of her new album and her recent #1 worldwide RIA single “Least of All Her” (Hygh Tension Records (TLG)/Virgin Music Group) with her band The Garage\, featuring members of Soul Asylum\, The Melismatics\, Ultrabomb\, The Mood Swings\, and Outta Coentro.—The Customers are a rock band formed in Los Angeles\, CA in 1995 by Ryan Sexton. A demo of Sexton’s songs found its way onto the desk of Neil Young’s manager\, Elliot Roberts\, who was then in the process of launching Young’s fledgling label\, Vapor Records. Roberts enquired as to whether a band might be formed to support the songs\, and The Customers were born.\n \nAfter moving back to Minneapolis (Sexton’s hometown) in 2000\, The Customers released the five song EP Severybuddyappy which included the college-friendly “Until Now.” A bunch of years passed while Sexton pursued other interests\, but writing songs nevertheless. In 2022\, he teamed up with renowned Minneapolis producer\, Kevin Bowe\, to make the post-punk/Americana LP\, Sweet Fatality. The album features appearances by Daniel Murphy (Soul Asylum/The Scarlet Goodbye)\, Terrance J. Fisher (Run Westy Run)\, Ivan Julian (Richard Hell and the Voidoids)\, Patricia Lacy (Luther Vandross)\, and Minneapolis phenoms John Eller\, Terry Isachsen\, Peter Anderson\, Pat Frederick\, Ian Prince\, and Noah Levy.\n \nThe band is set to go back into the studio to record a new EP tentatively titled “Living Like Gods.” The record will be produced by Daniel Murphy (Soul Asylum/The Scarlet Goodbye).\n—The Silent Treatment\nGet ready to dive into the raw\, high energy punk rock of The Silent Treatment. It’s Minneapolis rock and roll at its finest writing music that draws from the seedy underbelly. And with a band full of scene vets that sustain full-throttle energy for some complicated fun\, it’s not to be missed. After playing numerous local venues and festivals\, they are taking their recklessly fun live show regionally and nationally.\n \nThe band recently released their first full-length album\, Suplex in 10! (2024). Recorded at The Terrarium Studio\, it features unapologetic provocative lyrics with a stripped-down sound and an intensity as subtle as a car crash.\n \nThe group has shared stages with Agent Orange\, Henry Cluney of Stiff Little Fingers\, International punk supergroup Ultrabomb (Greg Norton -Hüsker Dü\,  Finny McConnell -The Mahones\, and Jamie Oliver -UK Subs)\, Dion Lunadon of The D4\, The dB’s\, Venus DeMars and All the Pretty Horses\, and many more. They receive regular airplay on The Current 89.3 FM\, KFAI 90.3 FM\, KVSC 88.1 FM\, and WITR 89.7 FM and have been featured on Racket’s “10 Best Songs of 2024\,” with their track\, “Hulk Hogan is a Dick” as well as being featured on The Current’s Scouting Report.

She is part of our Gothess community and one of our talented DJ’s on the DJ altar at Gothess. It’s been a tough time for many of us\, and we are hoping to help one of our queer siblings out during a challenging time. We will be trying to raise as much as we can on this event to give Lea Reed some funds as they navigate some challenges with employment\, so they are not in limbo and can avoid lack of housing. If you can’t attend the event\, please consider buying a ticket or two or four as a donation to the cause for one of our community members. Your help is not limited to attending so please donate if you have the means. DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n RSVP ON FACEBOOK\n	\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\n\nDoors 7:00pm :: Music 8:00pm :: 21+\n\n\nGA: $22 Box Office / $25.05 Online / $27 Door\n\n\nBOX-OFFICE Tickets Are Available at The Hook & Ladder Box Office or The Zen Arcade (Open During Hours of Operation.) For More Information visit www.ZenArcadeTHC.com \n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nAurelio Voltaire \nw/ Stranger Gallery —–\n\n“What if Johnny Cash made folks songs for vampires?” The answer might very well describe the music of Aurelio Voltaire. \n\n \nOften described as a modern day renaissance man\, Voltaire is an accomplished singer/ performer\, author\, creator of films\, animation\, toys and home decor.  \n\n \nAs an internationally touring musician for nearly 30 years\, he is at the forefront of the Gothic and Dark Cabaret genres and has consistantly headlined some of the biggest horror\, sci-fi and comic book conventions. Known for mixing mirth with the macabre\, his music is a vast collection of fun songs about frightful topics. Perhaps that is why he has become such a fan favorite around Halloween\, a time of year where his sizable audience doubles its listeners and his dark ditties appear on everyone’s Halloween playlists. Walk through a Spirit Halloween and you’re bound to hear a few of his songs\, like Brains! Or Land of the Deadfrom the Cartoon Network show The Grim Adventures of Billy And Mandy. \n\n \nMany know him for his songs from the viral animated videos of Daria Cohen’s Vampairseries (The Night\, Land of the Dead\, Zombie Prostitute\, Stuck with You\, Raised by Bats and Chupando) that have a combined 80 million views on Youtube.  \n\n \nOver his thirty year career\, Aurelio Voltaire has released 13th full-length studio albums. His most recent release\, an EP called\, The Last Halloween Party features It’s Always Wednesday (about that spooky Addams girl) as well as The Skeleton Dance which has an Oogie Boogie-like big band sound that recalls Voltaire’s earlier work for The Cartoon Network.  \n\n \nIn 2025\, Aurelio Voltaire is working on a Summerween album of spooky surf\, ska\, reggae and rockabilly songs and is planning a release of his greatest Halloween Hits for the fall.  \n\n \nWhen not touring or recording\, Aurelio Voltaire can be seen in his informative and hilarious Youtube series\, Gothic Homemaking. Like a young Vincent Price taking over for Martha Stewart\, he demonstrates how to turn a boring home into a Gothic lair with the help of his desiccated co-host\, Orville Deadenbacher and a bunch of other recurring monster characters. \n\n \nThe New York Times did a feature on Aurelio Voltaire and the Gothic Homemaking show calling him\, “The Martha Stewart of Macabre Homemakers” and “a lifestyle guru to people who embrace spookiness in all seasons.” The popularity of the show also lead to a book deal with Quarto Books/Epic Ink. Aurelio Voltaire’s book\, Gothic Life- The Essential Guide to Macabre Style hit bookstores everywhere on August 13th\, 2024. \n\n \nAurelio Voltaire has also just completed his first horror feature film\, The Demonatrix. In his directorial debut in which Voltaire also stars\, a priest comes to the aid of a dominatrix when she accidentally summons an incubus demon. The film stars Hannah Fireman (V/H/S)\, Doug Bradley (Hellraiser) and Larry Fessenden (Killers of the Flower Moon). The incubus demon is played by Skinny Puppy frontman\, Nivek Ogre (Repo\, the Genetic Opera\, The Devil’s Carnival) in a demon make up effects suit made by the same team that worked on DelToro’s Hellboy\, Ghostbusters Afterlife\, Star Trek Beyond and Cabinet of Curiosities. The film is expected to hit film festivals in the fall of 2025.

Our music blends melodic guitars and vocals with a driving bass sound\, taking listeners on a journey through pop culture nostalgia. Influenced by 90s and 2000s punk and emo\, our sound resonates with fans of Thrice\, NOFX\, Face to Face\, and Iron Maiden.\nWe’re a five-piece band ready to fill any stage with non-stop energy from the moment we hit that first chord. Get ready for a high-octane performance that’ll leave you wanting more – so bring extra socks\, because we’re about to blow them off!—\nstop.drop.rewind is what happens when emo kids grow up and get jazz degrees!\nKris Lohn & DJ Crenson have been writing & playing music together continuously since 2000\, in almost any formal and informal situation you can think of: punk bands\, orchestras\, church band\, ska club\, singer-songwriter groups\, school band\, and of course their prog-punk band stop.drop.rewind. This has given them a unique perspective on writing both as a team and on music in general\, plus insight into persevering and forging your own path in an unforgiving industry. They added Andy Sutton in 2015 to fully solidify their unique\, energetic\, and ever-evolving sound. Kris and Andy are not only the core rhythm section for ‘stop.drop.rewind’\, but have backed up premier artists on hundreds of performances in the Chicagoland area and nationwide (Marbin\, Slim Gambill of Lady A\, Kofi Baker\, Joe Marcinek and more). Hot off the release of their self-titled 4th record\, the band is touring the West Coast and gearing up for their second trip to Canada – after a highly successful stint there in 2024. —Underground ‘til Sundown\nFour friends mentally aging like fine wine\, physically aging like the cheese in the back of your fridge. \nThrashy punk/ melodic hardcore with hints of pop punk based out of northern Minnesota. \n—\n\nAnslem \n‘You may know Anslem. The Combo will be performing a FULL night of music from these two iconic funk artists. \nWorld renowned Dr. Mambo’s Combo has been performing weekly at Bunkers Music Bar & Grill since 1987 — one of the longest running weekly residencies anywhere in America. The band quickly became Prince’s favorite — playing soul\, rock\, and r&b music with unmatched passion and fire – and audiences have flocked to their weekly performances ever since. In addition to Prince\, many national touring artists often stop by to sit in with the band after their own show —including John Mayer\, Sheila E\, Questlove\, Stokley\, Larry Graham\, and Bonnie Raitt. \nDr. Mambo’s Combo’s ‘Let Me Have it All’ features a diverse collection of songs across the many eras and styles of these amazing trendsetting artists. Sly Stone rose to popularity with Woodstock era hits ‘Everyday People’ & ‘I Want to Take You Higher’\, and took a surprise turn in the early 70’s with the genre defining funk of ‘Family Affair’ and ‘If You Want Me to Stay’. \n\nRufus and Chaka Khan were one of the most popular and influential funk bands of the 1970s\, with four consecutive number-one R&B albums\, ten top 40 pop hits and five number-one R&B singles including ‘Tell Me Something Good’\, ‘Sweet Thing’ and ‘Ain’t Nobody’.\n \n\nThe current band lineup features Julius Collins and Margaret Cox on lead vocals\, Sonny Thompson on bass\, Brian Ziemniak on keys\, Geoff LeCrone on guitar and Peter Suttman on drums. Joining the band for this special performance are The Bangbang Horns (Peter Vircks & Riley Helgeson). \n\n\n\n \n\nThank you to our sponsors\, partners\, & neighbors: \nSummit Brewing • DuNord Social Spirits • RKR Ganja Beverages • Nobool Presents • KFAI 90.3FM • Mpls.St.Paul Magazine • The Zen Arcade • Longfellow Rising • Lake Street Council • Minnesota State Arts Board • Moon Palace Books • Arbeiter Brewing\n\n \nThe Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2025. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by Star Tribune readers.\n \nThe Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2025 season for our guests. Chuck Statler(music video pioneer who directed videos for DEVO\, Elvis Costello\, Nick Lowe and El Vez) directed two videos for the band. The videos aired on a new television network dedicated to music\, MTV.\n \n“Hard edged Stones-like rock’n’roll. East Coast street anthems coupled with Midwestern optimism and enthusiasm.” (Minneapolis Star Tribune)\n—\nFronted and founded by fight director\, songwriter\, and guitarist Annie Enneking\, Annie and the Bang Bang are a Minneapolis rock band. Known for their potent and spirited live shows\, the band has many moods\, mostly of the rock variety. They genre hop from dreamy folkpop to swampy psychedelic grooves to a grunge meets late sixties vibe\, crafting musical gems that value energy\, animal intelligence\, poetry\, and mischief. Their collective musical DNA includes REM\, Nirvana\, PJ Harvey\, Joni Mitchell\, Led Zeppelin\, Neil Young\, and Big Star. The band is like a small roving gang of friends\, who often develop new material while on writing retreats\, tours\, and band slumber parties. Adventure is a value of theirs\, and they treat every gig as one. \n \nThe Parkinson’s Foundation Minnesota and Dakota‘s Chapter is pleased to announce their first music fundraiser to support the Parkinson’s Foundation. Tickets to the event and donations made at the event are tax deductible. The Parkinson’s Foundation utilizes money raised through events like this to fund research to find a cure for the disease\, as well as to provide ongoing support to the Parkinson’s community.

He leads the charge alongside Daniel Haschke (saxophones/flute) who hypes the crowds by leaping off of the stage and spreading his infectious joy to the dance floor. Max Morkri’s blend of solid grooving and intricate drum chops and Jory Carlin’s powerful bass lines glue the band together. Carl Hipenbecker (trumpet/synth/vocals) and Brandon Jensen (keys/synth) offer a diverse range of skills to make each tune fresh and unique. Often considered “genre-fluid”\, the band is known for covering a vast sonic terrain throughout a set – and never without their suits\, boots\, and white Stetson.|\n\nModern Joey (Milwaukke\, WI) is a primarily jam-rock group that encompasses just about every rock subgenre into their original music\, alongside an eclectic mix of covers and a guaranteed good time. With endless inspirations\, Modern Joey strives to celebrate a universe of styles and genres. Giving everything that classic Modern Joey spin\, they aim to bring you a high energy show ripe with dancing\, headbanging\, stank-faces\, and the electric energy that will wake up your soul. \nHow does one describe Pullstring? We will hear readings from contributors Kao Kalia Yang\, Alison McGhee\, Casey Jarrin and more as well as performances by local musical guests Kith and Kin\, Squinny\, and Whispered the Rabbit.         \n— \nLocker Room Talk listens in on the epic and ordinary moments that happen when women are together. Subverting the traditional idea of “locker room talk\,” this anthology illuminates the conversations women share with family\, friends\, and strangers\, whether at the sinks of a nightclub ladies’ room\, on a bus heading to the Women’s March\, or in the kitchen of an elder relative. Together\, they reveal the myriad ways women care for themselves\, each other\, their communities\, and our world. Join us for a night of literature\, music\, and celebration. Copies of Locker Room Talk will be available for purchase.\n— \nKith + Kin Chorus is an uncommon community choir in the Twin Cities\, open to singers of all skill levels\, and 70+ singers strong. If you can match a pitch and carry a tune\, you can join! Voices are the original instrument andfew things are more unifying than voices\, raised together in song. And in a world that so easily divides and isolates\, singing in diverse community is its own act of rebellion and reimagining.\n—\nWhispered the Rabbit blends progressive folk\, rock and punk to take you on a lore-inspired journey through secret gardens\, cosmic storms and historic dance battles.\n \nWtR creates its tone poems out of a mutual love for storytelling. After a year of adventures\, their first album “Vol.I” was released digitally and on vinyl in Sept 2023\, chased by a montage of incredibly fun shows and a second tour in Ireland + the UK in 2024. \n\n—\nVol. II is WtR’s focus for 2025\, crafting new tones and character into a landscape of timeless themes woven together by folklore and nature. Look for a staggereddigital release of seasonally inspired tracks + Vol. II’s full vinyl release later this year.\n—\nKao Kalia Yang (she/her) is a Hmong American writer.\nShe is the author of the memoirs The Latehomecomer: A\nHmong Family Memoir\, The Song Poet\, and Somewhere in the Unknown World. Yang is also the author of the children’s books A Map into the World\, The Shared Room\, The Most Beautiful Thing\, Yang Warriors\, From the Tops of\nthe Trees\, The Rock in My Throat\, Caged\, and The Diamond Explorer. She coedited the groundbreaking collection What God Is Honored Here?: Writings on Miscarriage and Infant Loss By and For Native Women and Women of Color. Yang’s work has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts\, the National Book Critics Circle Award\, the Chautauqua Prize\, the PEN USA literary awards\, the Dayton’s Literary Peace Prize\, as Notable Books by the American Library Association\, Kirkus Best Books of the Year\, with a Heartland Bookseller’s Award\, and garnered seven Minnesota Book Awards. She lives in Minnesota with her family. Kao Kalia Yang teaches and speaks across the nation.\n—\nAlison McGhee (she/her) is a New York Times bestselling\nwriter of poems\, essays\, and books for all ages\,\nincluding the Pulitzer-nominated Shadow Baby and the\ninternationally beloved picture book for adults\, Someday.\nShe is the recipient of many awards\, and her work\nhas been translated into more than twenty languages. She is the mother of three grown children and lives in Minneapolis and California.\n—\nCasey Jarrin (she/her) is a writer\, artist\, educator\, survivor\, and outrageous dreamer in the age of Tinder and\ndrones\, Reddit and pandemic. Her work explores intergenerational trauma\, feminist prehistories (and futures!)\, and art as empathy machine. Her poems\, fiction\, and essays have appeared in US\, UK\, and Irish journals (Banshee\, Washington Square Review\, Belfield Literary Review\, KGB Literary Magazine\, Eire/Ireland\, Bright Lights Film)\, and the Walker Art Center’s Third Man Project. She received the 2022 Goldsmith Prize\, 2021 York Poetry Prize and Fingal Poetry Prize\, and has been shortlisted for a MacDowell Fellowship in Fiction. Raised in 1980s NYC by fierce women-artists-queers-dreamers\, she earned her Yale BA and Duke PhD\, taught literature and film at Macalester College\, and in 2015 launched Live Mind Learning. She’s now completing her debut poetry manuscript\, The Naked Dinner\, and a mixed genre collection\, Ice Cubes Melting in Your Hand.
