Minneapolis comedian\, writer\, and advocate Sarah McPeck opens the show. 10% of proceeds go to Outfront MN. AND there will be a post show chat with local leaders and representatives. Don’t miss it! \n\n \nIn a time where transgender people are being targeted and further marginalized by expansive overreach of local\, state and national politicians\, Dina Nina brings hope and joy with with the return of “Born Loud” a comedic storytelling of Dina Nina’s life and journey to finding self love. The show is full of humorous anecdotes\, childhood\, and the numerous coming out periods of her journey. Dina Nina Martinez\, the transgender stand-up comedian and actor praised by James Corden\, wows with her blend of sass and charm. She’s been featured in top comedy festivals and venues like LA Pride\, The Comedy Store\, and Zanies Comedy Club. A Huff Post blogger\, she founded Lady Laughs Comedy & Artemis Bow Productions and penned “The Misadventures of Delilah James.” She was honored to be one of “58 Trans Women Actors You Should Know & Also Love\,” by Autostraddle and she earned the title of Madison’s favorite Local Comedian. She has also made appearances at LA Pride\, The Chicago Women’s Funny Festival\, LA’s The Comedy Store\, Laugh Factory\, the Improv Comedy Clubs and Chicago’s Zanies Comedy Club Visionary behind Lady Laughs Comedy School & Festival Creator of “I Love Funny Women! Podcast”\, “The D Word Podcast” and the acclaimed “Dina & Gregg Show.” Dina Nina is also the first transgender woman to be elected to Madison\, WI City Council. Dina Nina Martinez is a comedic powerhouse\, spreading laughter and love worldwide. \n\n \n\nGrowing up in rural Wisconsin during the week and Minneapolis on the weekend\, allowed Sarah the perspective that people lived life very differently from one another. This city mouse\, country mouse existence provided a unique lens for commentary and it brought out the natural storyteller in Sarah. A ten-year stint as a blackjack dealer gave Sarah a captive audience to hone her comedy chops. One day she looked at the smoke-filled walls and noisy slot machines and said goodbye. She turned in her apron and decided to bet on herself and become a comedian.  At the same time\, she decided to pursue this dream she also decided to pursue her dream of being a lesbian. Go for broke\, as they say. Sarah is also an advocate for LGBTQ rights\, produces many shows to further queer content and to bring inclusion to the media. \n\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

SUMMARY:Flatfoot 56 / Koffin Kats with guests Supportive Parents\, & Loss Leader
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 8:00pm :: Music 8:30pm \n\n21+ \n\nGENERAL ADMISSION $18 ADV / $22 DOS \n\n\n COVID-19 Policies\n	\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nFlatfoot 56 / Koffin Kats\nwith guests Supportive Parents\, Loss Leader \n—- \nPlaying a positive-natured brand of hardcore-tinged Celtic punk\, Flatfoot 56 has been unleashing itself upon America and the rest of the world for over 20 years now. Forming in 2000\, the Chicago natives achieved nationwide attention with their first two label-backed records\, 2006’s Knuckles Up and 2007’s Jungle of the Midwest Sea. These releases built on a heavy dose of previously established regional notoriety\, helping the band gain steam early on.\n \n\nThe groundwork for what has become the relentlessly-touring sonic assault known as The Koffin Kats was laid near Detroit\, Michigan when Vic Victor (Lead Vocalist\, Upright Bass) joined forces with long-time friend Tommy Koffin (Guitar). After adding Damian Detroit (Drums) the band kicked off in June 2003\, stopping for nothing. Now\, with over ten years of touring internationally and over two thousand live shows\, the touring trio’s current home is out on the open road. \nSupportive Parents is a punk band formed by people in 2014. Those people played in other bands before Supportive Parents too though. Their music has been described as “Billy Joel screaming ’til he feels he’s going to barf.” By them. Supportive Parents wants your money. And they want it now. \nFounded in the cold-ass Minnesota winter of 2017\, Loss leader is the new project from three working-class dudes from Minneapolis\, MN; Tim Schumann (guitar/vocals)\, Andy Slater (drums)\, and Brandon Stein (bass). With deep roots in the Minneapolis and broader Midwest punk and indie scenes (former The Damn Choir\, Mpls Henrys\, Mad Dogs of Glory\, current The Jeffertons) Loss Leaders’ brand of earnest\, hard charging\, melodic midwest punk has earned them a dedicated and steadily growing fan base in Minneapolis and the region. \n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe mission room at The Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 8:30pm\nMusic 9:00pm\n21+\nGeneral Admission: $10 Advance / $15 Day of Show\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n	\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nÁit Ait\, Superior Siren\, & Anothernight\n\n\n \n\nÁit Ait (Irish for “strange place” or “uncanny valley”) are an experimental folk duo focused on reinterpretations of traditional songs – dark and deep\, bright and sparkling; full of noise and life. Based in Minnesota\, Áit Ait (pronounced “ahh-tch eye-tch”) is Aja McCullough (song) and Patrick Maun (sound). The two set out to explore the living tradition that is Irish folk music – ever evolving and always changing\, a solid footing set in the past but looking towards the future.\n \n\nS U P E R I O R  S I R E N  is an eerie folk project from Duluth\, Minnesota. The music is inspired by Lake Superior and Siren mythology\, and offers an alluring & dangerous expression of vulnerability & desire. Superior Siren continues to perform as a solo or full band act\, and is in production of the next full-length album.   \n\nAnothernight is a Minneapolis-based slowcore experimental folk project channeling both the beauty in and despair in love\, loss\, and longing. Utilizing minimalism in music and romanticism in lyric\, Anothernight explores human emotion from the wild to the mundane\, and the willingness to live in either. \n\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe mission room at The Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 7:30pm\nMusic 8:00pm\n21+\nGeneral Admission: $10 Advance / $15 Day of Show\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n	\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nAllison Mahal with guest Poolboy\n\n\n \n\n“Midwest folk-rocker Allison Mahal is known for her “powerful voice” and “knack for heartbreaking lyrics” (NPR). On her new album\, Not Over This Yet\, Mahal is ready to confront the past with brutal honesty and tender consideration. The ten tracks play out like thumbing through a photo album\, some snapshots burnt at the edges\, blurry and overexposed\, others are intricately framed\, capturing first impressions of what has grown into a golden-light love. Her latest singles have earned her placements on both Apple Music and Amazon playlists\, and the album has garnered attention from the likes of Under The Radar and Consequence of Sound\, who wrote\, “it feels as though she’s stepped into some of her own power.” \n\n \nPoolboy is an indie rock band from Minneapolis. They formed in 2015 and released their self-produced EP in February of 2016\, which Andrea Swenson of The Current called\, “An impressive debut.” In 2017\, they were named City Pages’ Best New Band.\nTheir newest five song EP\, Good Orchard\, was released in 2021 and represents a course change for the group that explores themes of existential fatigue\, intimacy\, and personal growth through dynamic lyricism placed within a vibrant and melodic soundscape.\nGood Orchard was engineered\, produced\, and mixed by Con Davison (Wingman\, Bad Bad Hats) and mastered by Huntley Miller (Bon Iver\, Sylvan Esso). \n\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

SUMMARY:Missy Raines & Allegheny Album Release w/ The Lake Monsters
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe mission room at The Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 7:00pm\nMusic 7:30pm\n21+\nGA Seating: $25 (First Come First Serve Basis) \nGeneral Admission: $18 Advance / $25 Day of Show\n\n*Does not include feesNO REFUNDS \n\n COVID-19 Policies\n	\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nMissy Raines & Allegheny Album Release Party\n\n\n\nw/ The Lake Monsters\n\n\nGRAMMY® nominated Missy Raines was named 2021 International Bluegrass Music Association Bass Player of the Year\, for the 10th time\, more than any other bass player in the history of the organization. Missy Raines has proven herself without doubt as an iconic bluegrass instrumentalist. But with the success of her latest release\, Royal Traveller\,Raines has stepped into the spotlight as a songwriter and singer as well. Royal Traveller was nominated for a GRAMMY® in 2020 and was produced by Compass Records co-founder and renowned banjoist\, Alison Brown. \n \nCurrently\, Missy is touring with her own band\, Missy Raines & Allegheny\, a bluegrass ensemble featuring banjo\, fiddle\, mandolin\, guitar\, and bass. With more than a nod to her deep bluegrass roots\, Allegheny offers Missy fertile ground to bring a together a lifetime of traditional inspiration along with her unique approach to string band music. \n \nAn experienced teacher\, Missy has been teaching bass at workshops and music camps all over the world since 1998 and also heads the ArtistsWorks Academy of Bluegrass School of Bluegrass Bass\, an online learning platform that features its’ trademarked Video Exchange technology.\n \nIn 1998\, Raines became the first woman to win IBMA’s Bass Player of the Year award. Her album\, Royal Traveller\, highlights this particular piece of Raines’ history with the stand out track “Swept Away”\, which features the first 5 women to win IBMA instrumentalist awards – Raines\, Brown\, Sierra Hull\, Becky Buller\, and Molly Tuttle. “Swept Away” was named 2018 IBMA Recorded Event of the Year.\nMissy’s version of the iconic Flatt & Scruggs “Darlin Pal(s) of Mine”\, (from the same album)\, was named 2019 Instrumental Recording of the Year by the IBMA. The tune features Alison Brown on banjo\, Todd Phillips on bass and Mike Bub on bass. \n \nIn 2020\, Missy received the IBMA Song of the Year award along with co-writers\, Becky Buller and Alison Brown for “Chicago Barn Dance”\, a song written specifically for the Chicago-based band\, Special Consensus. \n—\n\nThe Lake Monsters are friends from many bluegrass and other acoustic music bands in the area that got together for a house gig in the summer of 2023. At the end of the summer they were having so much fun they decided to keep it going. “The idea is simple\, straight ahead classic bluegrass – songs we all know and play together when we’re just jamming and doing it just for the fun of it.” It is more the rule than the exception that at any time\, any number of the best players from the top bluegrass acts in the area either sub in or make a guest appearance. In that respect it is more of a “collective” of bluegrass musicians. \n \nJohn Bodle – is a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist and bluegrass historian. He has played in numerous Twin Cities area bands including Ivory Bridge\, The Mark Kreitzer Band\, and LaPlant Road. \n \nBrent Fuqua – is originally from Kansas City and is a lifelong practitioner and student of Americana\, Folk and Bluegrass. He has been working as a mandolin player in the Minneapolis area for the last 10 years. Among the acts has worked with are Mother Banjo\, Blue Groove\, The Tony Rook Band\, Mashtun\, The Fisheads\, and Derek Johnson & Hardgrass. \n\n \nMarty Marrone – is originally from the Chicago area and toured for years as a member of national bluegrass band Special Consensus. Since moving to Minneapolis he had his own band Tangled Roots\, and spent years as the lead singer and guitarist in The High 48’s. He also plays in The Pale Ales Bluegrass Band. \n \nRina Rossi is a stalwart in the Old Time Music and square dance scene in the area. She and her husband AJ Srubas have a popular band Steam Machine and formerly were founding members of Back Up & Push.\n \nTom Schaefer is ubiquitous. If there’s a fiddle needed in any situation it’s likely him. Some of Tom’s more recent acts are Honky Tonk Jump\, Mashtun\, The Mark Kreitzer Band. He also appears with many national acts that come through town.\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Those are the qualities that have steered Zito’s career since the beginning and continue to define every effort he’s offered since.\n \nZito recorded the new album last September at Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood\, California\, with Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith producing. Both Bonamassa and Smith were also involved in the production of Blood Brothers\, the critically-acclaimed album Zito recorded with fellow label guitarist Albert Castiglia\, which topped both the Billboard and iTunes blues charts after its release in March\, 2023. \n \n“Life Is Hard is a complete work of art for me\,” says Mike Zito about the new disc. “I believe this is the best album I’ve ever made in my life. My wife Laura and I planned this idea of pouring my heart out in music after her death from cancer. Joe\, Josh and the incredible musicians were fully aware of the task at hand. They brought a lot of emotion to the music. I am so proud of this album and I know Laura would be proud as well.”\n \nThe even-dozen tracks on Life Is Hard include not only several Mike Zito originals\, but also his takes on a wide variety of blues songs written by such contemporaries as Tinsley Ellis\, Walter Trout\, Tab Benoit and Fred James. Sprinkled in are covers from a diverse assortment of blues/roots music icons\, including Little Milton (“Lonely Man”)\, Stevie Wonder (“Have a Talk with God”) and Reverend Gary Davis (“Death Don’t Have No Mercy”)\, plus the outside-the-box blues-worthy rendering of the Guess Who classic\, “These Eyes.”\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

You can wish the band good luck tonight at the Hook!\n \nThe Belfast Cowboys are a nine-piece\, horn-driven band from Minneapolis that specializes in the music of Van Morrison – mixing rock\, blues\, roots and soul sounds. Led by veteran songwriter and guitarist Terry Walsh and powered by a four-piece horn section\, the Cowboys have flourished in the renowned Minnesota music scene\, and have consistently packed houses and wowed crowds since 2002.\n \nThe band has expanded their content over the years to include rock and soul covers along with Terry’s own originals\, which have become fan favorites. Now a beloved staple in Minnesota\, the 9-piece Belfast Cowboys averaged over 120 shows a year before the pandemic. The bar-tested troubadours are known for playing epic sets at their weekly Minneapolis gigs and drawing large crowds to outdoor festivals. Occasionally they’ll venture beyond the Midwest to play Ireland\, Phoenix\, New York’s Times Square\, and once opened for the band Chicago in front of 15\,000 people.\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 6:00pm :: Music 7:00pm \n\n21+ \n\n\nTickets: Reserved Seats  $25\n\n\n\n COVID-19 Policies\n	\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nAn Evening with Jill Sobule\n\nWe’re proud to announce the return of Jill Sobule to our theater for this intimate\, seated show. Jill has released a dozen of albums spanning three decades of recording\, tackling such topics as the death penalty\, anorexia nervosa\, shoplifting\, reproduction\, the French Resistance\, adolescent malaise\, LGBTQ issues\, and the Christian Right\, to name a few – with her trademark wit and aplomb.\n \nThe Denver-born songwriter/guitarist/singer’s work is at once deeply personal and socially conscious\, seriously funny and derisively tragic. While her songs cover expansive thematic ground\, they benefit greatly from Jill’s subtle intelligence and skillful light-handedness. No sloganeering flag-and-fist waving here\, but rather portrait-&-story songs about human beings\, real and imagined\, which allow us to step back from the issues they tackle\, be they individual or societal\, and to relate to them as we would to a close friend.\n \nOn stage\, she entertains\, amuses\, provokes\, and more often than not\, takes her audiences on an emotional roller coaster\, from comedy to pathos in a few bars of music\, often within the same song.\n \nJill Sobule’s recording career began in 1990 with the album Things Here Are Different \, produced by Todd Rundgren. Radio took notice thanks to the single’s “Too Cool To Fall In Love.” Her 1995 self-titled album brought her mainstream commercial and critical success with two hit singles: the satirical gem “Supermodel” from the movie Clueless and “I Kissed A Girl” (the original)\, the first ever openly queer-themed Billboard Top 20 record.\n \nSobule has performed with Neil Young\, Billy Bragg\, Steve Earle\, Cyndi Lauper\, Tom Morello\, Warren Zevon\, and John Doe. She inducted Neil Diamond into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. She has shared billing with Don Henley\, Joe Jackson\, Warren Zevon\, the influential LA punk band X\, and Lloyd Cole & The Negatives. She regularly co-stars with comedian/actress/author/SNL alumni Julia Sweeney in their Jill & Julia Show\, an unusual and mesmerizing combination of song and storytelling. A road warrior\, she plays more than 100 shows a year.\n \nIn November of 2019 Jill sang a song as herself on an episode of The Simpsons. Her latest record is “Nostalgia Kills”\, produced by Ben Lee and released on her own Pinko Records label. Jill’s theater credits include a musical adaptation of the Broadway classic “Yentl”\, “Prozak and the Platypus”\, and “Times Square”. Her latest\, “Fuck 7th Grade”\, was postponed due to Covid\, but was performed and filmed for three days at a make-shift drive-in over the Summer. The musical is a finalist for the Lambda Literary awards in LGBTQ Drama category this June.\n \n“Jill Sobule can claim her place among the stellar New York singer-songwriters of the last decade. Topical\, funny and more than a little poignant …grown-up music for an adolescent age.”  -New York Times\n \n\n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Debbie Center is known for her signature #classicalrock grooves\, reworking classic rock tunes into symphonies for two hands on her piano. Some of her favorites are the Grateful Dead\, Beatles\, Jethro Tull\, Led Zeppelin\, Queen\, Moody Blues\, Stevie Wonder\, Elton John\, Billy Joel\, and many more. She performs with numerous other musicians throughout Minnesota in addition to her solo piano concerts. Debbie also composes original piano music inspired by the wildlife\, scenery\, and northern lights of her beloved home in Nevis\, Minnesota. \n“Debbie Center is one of my favorite musicians to work with. She always has such amazing energy and it shines wildly through her music. Classical piano roots to improvisation of the highest accord. It’s very rare to find both qualities in a musician and usually it’s one or the other\, Debbie does both with ease. Her kind and positive attitude paired with her musical ability also continues to elevate her into new musical heights\, I’m excited to see where her musical journey will lead! I’m a big fan.”  – Mark Joseph (The Big Wu / The Dire Wolves) \n\n\n\n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

This hot club is an all string jazz ensemble with la pompe rhythm guitar\, upright bass\, and the lively improvisation of a solo guitar and violin. Staying true to the 1930s hot club sound\, MHC also adds a healthy spread of modern twists. During a live set\, you can expect them to play romantic ballads\, American jazz standards\, European folk\, and science fiction theme songs. This troupe is sure to get you swinging with their virtuosic style and expert arrangements. Their latest album\, Swing Cities\, tips its hat to the Twin Cities swing dance scene\, and to the cities around the world who keep the traditions of gypsy jazz and swing alive and vibrant as ever. \n“Mississippi Hot Club has become one of the Midwest’s preeminent string bands. Originally an homage to French Gypsy Jazz\, the quartet’s music has begun to take on a more eclectic\, adventurous persona as other influences have crept into the palette.”-Twin Cities Jazz Fest \nGypsy Mania “Hot Club” Quartet\, a Twin Cities-based swing jazz band\, performs a timeless jazz tradition commonly known as Gypsy Jazz\, a blend of traditional Roma music and swing jazz. Originating in Paris in the early 1930s\, the ‘Hot Club’ jazz tradition brings back happy memories of the swing jazz era\, and for all an opportunity to nod\, tap\, or hit the dance floor. Their music keeps audience members on the edge (or out) of their chairs with the band’s formidable improvisational prowess\, and exceptional stylistic dimension. A group not to be missed! Performing over 16 years\, the ensemble includes the unmistakable mastery of jazz violinist Gary Schulte\, the diverse guitar styling of Glen Helgeson\, the tasty refined work of acoustic bassist Steve Pikal\, and the rhythmic sensibility of jazz drummer Nathan Norman. Their self-titled CD\, Gypsy Mania “Hot Club” Swing Jazz (2009)\, offers spontaneous and vivid performances in the Django Reinhardt tradition and includes savvy originals by guitarist and bandleader Glen Helgeson. \nThe Red Hot Django Peppers bring jazz manouche into the future with their fiery\, unique take on the genre. Consisting of Dr. Ryan Piccone on lead guitar\, Ian Stenlund on rhythm guitar\, Danny Lentz on violin\, and Sean Roderick on Bass. With each member hailing from a different musical background\, this music gets a unique treatment with thrilling surprises at every performance. DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 7:00pm :: Music 7:30pm \n\n21+ \n\nReserved Seats: $36\nGeneral Admission: $20 Advance / $26 Day of Show\n\n\n COVID-19 Policies\n	\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nBernard Allison: “Luther’s Blues” Album Release Concert\n  \n\nBernard Allison returns to the Twin Cities for an album release show for his highly-praised new album Luther’s Blues. Bernard is the guitar-slinging\, singer/songwriting son of Luther Allison\, a true legend of Chicago blues history. The album is Number 1 on the Billboard Blues Album Charts.\n \nLike his father\, the Paris-based Allison is an energetic showman\, a prolific recording artist\, and a road warrior who sometimes performs 250 dates a year. His playing style incorporates vintage and modern Chicago and Texas blues\, along with R&B and roots-rock. \n \nWhile still in grade school\, he accompanied his father to blues festivals where he met Muddy Waters\, Hound Dog Taylor\, and Albert King. In addition to honing his skills as a young artist with his father and other legends\, Bernard furthered his chops under the tutelage of Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan. \n\n \nA lifelong musician who soaked up blues traditions during his youth in Chicago\, he later followed his dad to Europe\, became the leader of the Luther Allison Band and eventually made his own way\, creating exciting new sounds for a new generation.\n \nAnyone who’s ever attended a Bernard Allison concert or listened to his recordings knows how much it means to him to keep his father’s musical legacy alive. “I made a promise since day one – to myself and to my mom Fannie Mae Allison – that I’d always include at least one or two of my dad’s songs on every album I record\,” he says. Bernard has delivered on that promise throughout his career\, performing Luther’s songs both at concerts and on record\, while forging a funky and more rock-oriented style that differs from the traditional blues he grew up around. His dad supported him while he was still finding his own musical voice\, openly encouraging him to “play it how you feel it” rather than copy what came before. \n\n \nThus\, on Luther’s Blues\, you’ll hear Luther’s songs reinvented for the 21st century by a member of the blues generation that followed him. They’re not necessarily Luther’s most famous tunes; when putting together any new album\, says Bernard\, he often goes for “songs that were overlooked on each [of my father’s albums] and then put my own twist on them.” \n\n \n“With a devout reverence to his father’s musical genius and legacy\, Bernard Allison captures the original energy and power of his father’s music\, and yet adds his own distinct sound\, making each song wholly new with vibrancy and passion.”   Indie Pulse Music\n \n\n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
