SUMMARY:Jon Wayne & The Pain / Feed The Dog
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook AND LADDER THEATER \n\nDoors 9:00pm :: Music 9:30pm \n\n21+\n\nGA: $15 EARLY / $20 ADV / $25 DOS \n\n\n COVID-19 Policies\n	\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nJon Wayne & The Pain / Feed The Dog\n—- \nJon Wayne & The Pain and Feed The Dog bring the heat and the love to The Hook and Ladder Theater for a night of holiday celebration! \nJon Wayne & The Pain \nPowered by a lineup of heartbreaking reggae ballads illustrating how our most precious growth often blooms from pain\, combined with a handfull of beat thumping tracks\, Jon Wayne and the Pain’s 5th studio album “Growth Lines” is here. While embracing the present\, “Growth Lines” also hearkens back to the brashness of the band’s 2008 self-titled debut album and proves that music is always better with friends. They’ve recruited heavyweight performers G Love\, Tropidelic\, Bumpin’ Uglies and Indubious to add flavor and texture to the soundtrack’s 11 or so tunes. Showcasing the veteran band’s unique ability to write songs that tug at our heartstrings while keeping our feet moving Growth Lines has something for every JWP fan\, new and old alike. \nFeed the Dog is an eclectic and action-packed\, experimental jam-grass act. The midwest based 4-piece masterfully blends soul-pleasing songwriting rich in imagery and storytelling with a genre bending\, shake-your-hips\, instrumental flair. Their high energy performances are driven by the unique and progressive approach of each player: imaginative melodies with graceful ambiance skillfully crafted on the violin\, tireless beats both dynamic and soulful confidently assembled on the drums\, driving low end with finesse and intention forged on the bass guitar\, and unique approach to playing the acoustic guitar blending fast picking bluegrass runs with the strength of blues and rock to evoke an emotional contrast between melancholy and hopeful. \n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

This is a dynamic performance informed by politics\, passion\, intelligence and the all-important sense of humor.  \n \nHamell’s uncompromising\, fearless\, obscene\, insightful\, absurd\, angry & poignant…. a great mind with acoustic punk rock mixed with a seeker’s soul.\n \nHis caustic wit and devil-may-care attitude have long been a favorite of anti-establishment icons Aesop Rock\, Kimya Dawson\, Ani DiFranco and the critical elite inciting Rolling Stone magazine to call him “Bald\, bold and superbad!”\n\n \n\n\n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

SUMMARY:John Louis 'CD Release' with Bad Posture Club\, & Jon Rodine
DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook AND LADDER THEATER \n\nDoors 7:00pm :: Music 7:30pm \n\n21+\n\nGA: $12 ADV / $17 DOS \n\n\n COVID-19 Policies\n	\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nJohn Louis ‘CD Release’\nwith Bad Posture Club & Jon Rodine\n—- \nJohn Louis‘ latest album “For Everyone (Especially You)” will be officially released January 22\, 2024. This album includes two singles that Louis recorded with producer Shane Leonard and released in 2021\, and 10 new tracks recorded with co-producer Dex Wolfe in 2023. The story arc of the album is solid. The first few songs paint the picture of a life lived\, maybe not so well. The rest of the album pulls us through a journey of decline\, despair\, resignation\, death\, and the aftermath. Among the highlights are Roy Orbison-esque version of “I Wish I Remembered You”\, “Another Day”\, which some say sounds like a mix of Crazy Horse and the Replacements\, and “Wake Me Up”\, which has a devistativing slow build and instrumental arrangement. The album features the contributions of a strong bench of talented musicians\, including Siri Undlin\, Hannah Hebl\, Jimmy Johnson\, Clifton Nesseth\, Mark Ettinger\, Robbie Weisshaar\, Bryan Hanna\, Jeremy Boettcher: bass (tracks 2\, 4) Ben Lester\, Sam Kassirer\, Shane Leonard and Dex Wolfe.\n \n\nBad Posture Club is a Minneapolis-based folk duo made up of Maren Day and Morgan Kavanagh. Their songwriting explores themes of home-places\, memory\, and family\, finding inspiration in the strange relationship between human softness and the unyielding societal structures we both participate in\, and push against. When reinterpreting traditional folk songs\, they carve out space and agency for queer voices. Purposefully open and sparse\, they craft intricate and experimental harmonies with their two voices\, banjo\, guitar\, and sometimes a 100 year old pump organ. Bad Posture Club invites the listener to hear the power in quiet\, intimate music\, and offers warmth and reflection through song.\nJon Rodine is a singer and songwriter based in Minnesota. Drawing on sources like Dan Penn\, Doug Sahm\, Bob Dylan and beyond\, his music is songdriven\, a blend of Americana\, groove-oriented rock’n’roll and country soul. His latest album “Last Star”–his first collection of original material–has been getting notice around the country. “Eleven songwriting gems” says Mondophonic.com\, but “his strongest asset is his voice”. “Authentic\, unpretentious…funky\, heartbreaking”\, said Ellen Stanley\, in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Their live shows are filled with rage\, passion\, and politically-driven lyrics addressing bigotry\, queerness\, and misogyny. With a satisfyingly raw 80’s garage punk sound\, Surly Grrly uses catchy hooks and tempo changes to rile up a crowd\, mixing originals with a variety of bombastic covers. \n \nSpirited garage rock outfit\, Mary Jam\, combines elements of DIY Punk\, Surf Rock\, and Grunge to create a blistering sound that will stick to you like day old chewing gum. MJ describes their music as the theoretical result of a threesome between Dick Dale\, Nirvana\, and FIDLAR. The band also makes bold lyrical declarations in their music\, sometimes singing about beer and surfing\, and other times lamenting the over-militarization of police. \n\n\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

The band just brought on Michael Leggs as Lead Singer with the core rhythm section of Eric and Dog attempting to hold down the tightrope act of Bleem on Lead guitar. \nStreet HassleA refreshing throwback to the Twin Cities early punk scene that spawned the likes of Man Sized Action & Rifle Sport\, Street Hassle’s sound is straight-up adult urban angst\, as fueled by singer James Ho’s poetic howlings and guitarists Tony Nelson & Buck Doss’ slivery riffs. Formed in 1999\, these guys are that rare live band that thrives on a mix of spontaneity\, unpredictability\, and raw expression  \n\nThe 99ers are a pop/punk band from Minneapolis.   Their musical philosophy is simple – BANG IT OUT\, KEEP IT SHORT & NO MESSING ABOUT!!\n\n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

When not writing and recording here in the Gopher State\, Dave resides in Hamilton\, Ontario where he fronts the popular rock group Teenage Head along with several other projects – The Shakers and Dave Rave & The Second Responders among them.\n \nAs a Minnesota music fan\, singer/bassist and live sound engineer\, Scott Allen has had a unique exposure to Minnesota music and the artists performing it. On the bass and backing vocals\, he’s played in bands with songwriters like Tom Mason\, Mark Hasbrouch (Surahoolies)\, Phil Solem (The Rembrandts)\, Aaron Seymour (The Delilahs)\, Melvin James (Planet Melvin) and countless others. Scott has also done much fill in work on bass as well\, including groups like The Billys\, Tim Mahoney\, Scott Laurent Band\, Rhythm Jones\, The Phones\, Mile One\, The Kurt Neumann Band (BoDeans)\, Test Site 67\, Rex Daisy’s alter-ego band Two Tickets To Paradise\,  and Patrik Tanner & The Faraway Men.\n \n\nCurrently\, in addition to recently releasing an album of original music\, Scott sings lead vocals for a popular local Talking Heads tribute Slippery People  and 70s throwback group Band On The Rocks.\n\n \n\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

On February 2\, 1959\, Buddy Holly\, Ritchie Valens and JP Richardson (the Big Bopper) performed at The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake\, Iowa. The plane crash that occurred hours later changed music history forever.  Holly\, Valens and Richardson were killed in the crash.  They had been on a flight to Moorhead\, MN.  Young Dion DiMucci was broken-hearted.  The nineteen-year-old had lost some dear friends\, but the scheduled performance in Moorhead wasn’t canceled.  Dion took the stage in Minnesota along with a new\, unknown artist\, fifteen-year-old Bobby Vee of Fargo\, ND.  A call had gone out on radio stations in the Fargo/Moorhead area looking for local talent replace the deceased superstars.  Vee answered the call\, and as they say\, the rest is history.     \nA Hard Day’s Night tells the entire story with tributes to artists who performed at the Surf Ballroom on February 2\, 1959 and the Moorhead Armory on February 3\, 1959. This faithful tribute features the songs made famous by Holly\, who was considered one of the foremost pioneers of rock and roll.  It has played the best venues including a performance on the main stage at the Surf Ballroom in February\, 2023 and the main stage at Moondance Jam in Walker\, MN.  This show commemorates the 65th anniversary of “the day the music died.”  It is a must-see for those who remember as well as a brand-new generation of fans.\n \nSET TIMES1:30pm – Set 1Intermission2:30pm – Set 2\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

You feel it’s something that the rest of the world needs to hear\, and how criminal it is that it isn’t spreading far and wide.” That sentiment could be related to the fact that the voices which Huber unearths are subtle and take more than a hurried listen to truly absorb. A person who appears reserved and matter-of-fact in everyday speech brings forth songs that are anything but that.\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
