Artist\, tunesmith\, swamp Yankee international touring artist Matt Lorenz is a one-man salvage specialist singing into the hollow of a dumpster guitar\, slipping a broken bottleneck onto the slide finger\, railing on a box of twisted forks and bones\, rocking until every sound is ragged at its edges\, till the house is singing back. He brings wild energy with a punk-folk-busker-psych rock vibe to each performance.\n\nThe Suitcase Junket is filling rooms and drawing festival crowds all over his native New England and beyond from opening nights for Lake Street Dive and Charlie Musselwhite to Mountain Stage in West Virginia. He caught the attention of National Public Radio who chose his video session for “Earth Apple” from his 2015 album Make Time as one of the year’s favorite sessions.\n “The overall sound lands somewhere between The Avett Brothers and early\, dirty Black Keys. There’s a Tom Waits vibe in the fuzzy megaphone reverb mic\, and something ancient\, rear tribal in his whistles and moans.” – The Boston Globe\n“The Suitcase Junket is a master of musical imagination.” – NPR World Cafe\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

In the gospel church of her childhood\, she played saxophone and drums and found her singing voice and a passion for music. \n \nChastity’s been featured on NPR’s Favorite Sessions\, CMT\, American Songwriter\, the London Times\, Paste Magazine and others. Chastity has toured the U.S. and abroad\, appearing on the U.K.’s Later…with Jools Holland.\n \nLike so many artists who endured the uncertainty of the 2020 lockdown\, Chastity’s instinct was to turn inward\, at first out of self-preservation\, and then because the new songs kept coming and coming. Since finishing her last album\, 2017’s Silhouette Of Sirens\, she estimates she’s written nearly 100 new songs\, ten of which found their way onto her latest\, 2022’s Sing To The Walls.\n \nBetween writing sessions she’s been vibing to chilled-out\, forward-thinking artists like Leon Bridges\, H.E.R.\, SZA\, and Daniel Caesar\, taking their cue to expand beyond genre and her folk/roots history to encompass her appreciation of all Black American musical art forms. “I also want to poke at what the blues is\,” Chastity reflects. “It has a lot of stereotypes like it’s mostly only played by blue-eyed white guys now. But what about Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey? I feel so closely connected\, in a pure\, undeviating lineage\, to the heritage of being a Black\, queer blues woman. I want to share this music with them\, to say that I’ve listened\, and I’ve done something new.”\n—\n\nAnna Devine is a singer-songwriter based in the Twin Cities. You may have seen her singing with local indie groups Aiden Intro and Chutes. In 2024\, Anna moved to center stage to front her solo project\, playing sold-out rooms in the Twin Cities area.\nInspired by indie folk musicians such as Adrianne Lenker\, Slow Pulp and Alex G\, Anna released her debut EP\, “Seeing the Trees for the Leaves” in April 2025. \n \n“Her first solo release\, “Year’s End\,” captures the conflicting feelings of starting anew after the holiday fanfare. Devine’s gentle\, sensitive musical touch is reminiscent of alternative folk artists like Big Thief and Aldous Harding.” —Diane Miller\, The Current (MPR)\n \n“Anna Devine’s songs carry stories of heartache and fortitude across her new EP\, Seeing the Trees for the Leaves. With subtle and gentle delivery\, Devine knows how to sculpt atmosphere on the opening song “This Time.” The minimal sound design builds with swells of warm tones and gently strummed guitar\, evolving into a beautiful tune.” —Mpls.St.Paul Magazine\n\n\n \n\nThank you to our sponsors\, partners\, & neighbors: \nSummit Brewing • DuNord Social Spirits • RKR Ganja Beverages • Nobool Presents • KFAI 90.3FM • Mpls.St.Paul Magazine • The Zen Arcade • Longfellow Rising • Lake Street Council • Minnesota State Arts Board • Moon Palace Books • Arbeiter Brewing\n\n \nThe Award-Winning* Under the Canopy series at The Hook & Ladder Theater returns with its uniquely seasonal urban footprint to the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis in 2025. *Voted Best in MN 2021 by Star Tribune readers.\n \nThe Hook has committed to having a food truck Under the Canopy throughout the 2025 season for our guests. Get your tickets and don’t forget your dancing shoes!—Igor Yuzov was born in Germany\, raised in Ukraine and studied in Russia. He grew up in the former Soviet Union\, where folk music was the norm and rock’n’roll was illegal. A rebellious streak\, led him to seek out the forbidden music. As soon as it became possible\, Igor left Russia for America with his “Folk’n’Roll” band Limpopo\, and was personally greeted by Ronald Reagan. In 1993\, Limpopo won Ed McMahon’s Star Search and their popularity began to blossom. In 1995\, Igor dreamed that Elvis Presley came to him and told him to start playing rock’n’roll. Igor and his Russian friends became Red Elvises and gave street performances on Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade. As their crowds grew larger\, the City of Santa Monica ordered them to discontinue their street performances. Evolving over the years\, Igor’s music has been labeled “Siberian Surf Rock” which contains humorous lyrics and grooves that forces his audience to dance. Over the past 20 years\, Red Elvises have constantly toured all over the world with occasional breaks to record new music and to participate in film and television projects. \n\n \nAs an independent band\, Red Elvises have produced 12 studio albums\, two live albums\, a live concert DVD\, and a Greatest Hits compilation. Some of their most notable film contributions include music and or performances in “Six String Samurai”\, “Mail Order Bride”\, “Armageddon”\, “Skippy”\,  “Melrose Place”\, “Fastlane”\, “Penn and Teller’s Sin City Extravaganza”\, “VH-1 Behind the Music”\, and “MTV”. Red Elvises have performed for large festivals\, private parties\, and played on massive stages such as 2005’s Live 8 Benefit Concert. No matter where they perform\, Igor & Red Elvises always bring the party with them.\n \nBlack Widows are a surf-punk-psyche band from Minneapolis\, Mn\, U.S. They serve up wild surf guitar\, slick bass grooves\, mean beats\, & riot grrrl vox. BW have toured overseas & nationally from Spain to NYC & LA playing bills and festivals w/ major acts like Bombino\, Dale Watson\, L.A. Witch\, The Trashmen\, Shonen Knife\, Olivia Jean\, The Coathangers\, Death Valley Girls\, Supersuckers\, Agent Orange\, The Surfaris\, Man or Astro-Man\, Messer Chups\, The Surfrajettes\, John Waters\, & more. BW’s ‘Swamp Rock City’ EP is out now on vinyl and they’re currently working on a full length album to be released this year. Follow BW at @blackwidowsrocks for 2025 tour dates and releases.

This rockin’ quartet is considered one of the torch bearers of American roots music. \n \nSince forming in 1988 in Southern California\, Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys have become one of the world’s most beloved Americana/Roots acts\, drawing from the deep musical waters that flow just beneath the surface of Rock & Roll’s fertile soil. A childhood passion for Country\, Doo-Wop\, and Rhythm & Blues 45s led Sandy (born Robert Williams) to pursue a singing career as a teenager\, beginning a life in music that continues decades later. \n \nAnd as his personal record collection continues to grow (75\,000 and counting)\, so does the depth of the musical influences that stream through his songwriting and singing style. A critically acclaimed tribute to Tex-Mex hero Freddy Fender\, released at the beginning of the 2020 lockdown\, points the way forward for Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys as they continue on a path of musical growth. After nearly 35 years on the road\, and more than two dozen releases to their credit\, they remain key figures on the ever-changing Americana circuit\, both on record and in live appearances.\n \n\nMinneapolis based band\, Lena & The LoveKills\, exist in a musical genre all their own. The band fuses elements of Rockabilly\, Danceable Swing\, Jump Blues and R&B into an eclectic mix of good music and fun times that can only rightfully be described as “Swingabilly.” Their stage presence\, retro look\, and often quirky sense of humor delights listeners and gets folks onto the dance floor.

Now\, he’s uniting his passion for music and service to support another vital organization: Open Arms of Minnesota. \n\n \nOpen Arms provides free\, nutritious meals to people living with life-threatening illnesses like HIV/AIDS and cancer. After a devastating loss of state and federal funding\, the organization is now at risk—forcing some clients to go without food. Matt’s firsthand experience as a former Open Arms intern and community member inspired him to act. \n\n \nOn Saturday\, July 12\, Matt is organizing a powerful night of music at The Hook and Ladder Theater. Nicole was initially influenced by her parents playing in bands and working around the KC music scene. She recalls seeing her father playing blues guitar and her mother singing with the group Little Eva and The Works and it set off a switch. With her two brothers\, Nick and Kris\, they formed the “Heavy Blues” band Trampled Under Foot\, which found initial popularity in the Midwest\, then exploded worldwide for over 10 years.  \n\nThere has been no shortage of praise; Guitar World stated\, “Danielle Nicole has won respect and admiration throughout the American blues scene for her soulful\, inventive playing and tireless work ethic.” Blues Music Magazine effused\, “Nicole brings it\, bakes it\, and serves it up blazing on a silver soul-rocking platter.” The Kansas City Star declared\, “Blues and soul vocalists tend to improve as they age. Bettye LaVette is among the artists who became increasingly believable as she matured. Danielle Nicole appears to be following in her footsteps.”

A captivating live performer with a loyal multi-generational following\, Bern has released 25 albums and EP’s and his songs have appeared in numerous films and TV shows.  Ani DiFranco\, an early supporter of Bern’s\, took him on tour with her and produced his second album\, Fifty Eggs.\n \nHe has been compared favorably to the great masters of songwriting\, such as Guthrie\, Dylan\, Costello. Though he draws from the great American tradition of songwriting\, there is something deeply unique and compelling that make you want to get to know the man behind the songs.\n \n \n\n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

The popular rock/garage group has been on semi-hiatus since member Jim McGuinn moved to Philadelphia for a job at WXPN-FM in 2022. Named after a phrase used in St. Paul when you meet someone new and discover a surprise connection – a mutual friend\, a past lover\, bandmate or neighbor – Saint Small refers to the way everyone and everything seems to be connected. The band surfs between songs that are serious\, and songs that will seriously make you laugh or smile (or cry\, laughing). \n \n\n \n\nThe best of classic guitar-driven rock in one small package\, Little Man (Chris Perricelli) has been described as a cross between George Harrison\, David Bowie\, T. Rex\, and Jack White\, with a familiar rock sound that is somehow all his own while being heavily inspired by spiritual and Zen themes. The Little Man live rock show is not to be missed.  Exuding with passion and a rock-star quality that pulls you into a performance with a classic rock\, psychedelic and garage rock feel that is uniquely their own.  \n \n\nThe unique fuzzpop sound of The Mood Swings developed when guitarist/songwriter Ashley Ackerson joined forces with kindred spirit Sallie Watson in the early 2000s and started cutting some 4-track demos. A little punk here\, a little 60s garage there\, a lot of attitude everywhere – The Mood Swings sound melded all these ingredients into hard hitting tunes prickly with pop hooks\, sharp-witted lyrics and searing guitars. The Mood Swings released three ace albums\, all produced by the late\, great Ed Ackerson. These albums featured catchy tunes with an edge and a bit of psychedelic mayhem thrown in.
