The Pistol Whippin’ Party Penguins are not a violent group of flightless aquatic birds looking for a party – rather they’re 5 self-proclaimed gentlemen with 2 guitars\, a mandolin\, a bucket of fiddles\, an upright bass\, a banjo\, and 4-part vocal harmony\, combining folk\, rock\, blues\, bluegrass\, and some fully-loaded stage banter. Their combination of folk\, rock\, blues\, bluegrass\, and stage banter creates an experience that everyone can enjoy!\n \nMinneapolis folk sextet Maygen & The Birdwatcher took home wins for Album of the Year and Americana Artist of the Year on April 23 at the Midwest Country Music Organization’s annual awards show\, held in Arnolds Park\, Iowa. They received the accolades for their acclaimed 2022 release Bootleggin’ at the Flower Shoppe. The 2023 awards follow the 2021 Americana Artist of the Year and Album of the Year wins for their debut album Moonshine. \nMaygen & The Birdwatcher are a six-piece Americana band from Minnesota led by singers and guitarists Maygen Lacey and Noah Neumann.“Maygen & The Birdwatcher have it going on\, offering alluring vocals\, tight rhythms\, and fulgent streams of marvelous Americana.” – Guitar Girl Magazine\n \nOriginally formed in Minneapolis in 2017\, Steam Machine brought to the national stage a Midwest influenced string band aesthetic that didn’t draw such hard lines between bluegrass and old time music. Combining smooth\, powerful fiddling with rolling three finger banjo and front-of-the-beat rhythm backup\, the resulting sound was “bright and fresh\,” commanding\, and “suspiciously entertaining.” Fronted by award winning\, in-demand Minneapolis fiddler AJ Srubas and Twin Cities old time music/dance instigator Rina Rossi\, with the support of other gifted musicians. “Steam Machine is a stout example of the vitality of fiddle music up north these days.” (Old Time Herald)\n \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=90&v=MhksKbY4UR0 \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

We’ll have a holly jolly time as they help us celebrate the season. The band promises to incorporate rockin’ holiday tunes into their usual wide-array of Van Morrison and other rock songs. No matter if you’ve been naughty or nice\, this party will entertain you and your guests.\n \nThe Belfast Cowboys are a nine-piece\, horn-driven band from Minneapolis that specializes in the music of Van Morrison – mixing rock\, blues\, roots and soul sounds. Led by veteran songwriter and guitarist Terry Walsh and powered by a four-piece horn section\, the Cowboys have flourished in the renowned Minnesota music scene\, and have consistently packed houses and wowed crowds since 2002.\n \nTerry Walsh got his start playing in various Twin Cities rock bands and toured as Slim Dunlap’s bass player in 1997\, opening for Son Volt. In 2001 the idea to form a Van Morrison tribute band was formed\, and Terry spent the rest of the year learning Van songs and building an all-star band\, with Joe Loskota on keyboards and Vic Volare running the horn section. The band played their first show at the old 400 Bar on Saint Patrick’s Day 2002.\n \nMany musicians played with the band over the first few years\, and continue to do so today\, but the ‘A’ team was soon established: Dan Kowalke on guitar and backing vocals\, Joe Baumgart (bass)\, Dave Kirby and Dave Haugen (drums\, backing vocals)\, Joe Loskota (keyboards\, backing vocals)\, Paul Gronert (sax)\, Matt Hanzelka (trombone)\, Tim Martin (trumpet)\, Vic Volare (sax\, flute) and Terry Walsh (lead vocals\, guitar\, harmonica\, piano).\n \nThe band has expanded their content over the years to include rock and soul covers along with Terry’s own originals\, which have become fan favorites. Now a beloved staple in Minnesota\, the 9-piece Belfast Cowboys averaged over 120 shows a year before the pandemic. The bar-tested troubadours are known for playing epic sets at their weekly Minneapolis gigs and drawing large crowds to outdoor festivals. Occasionally they’ll venture beyond the Midwest to play Ireland\, Phoenix\, New York’s Times Square\, and once opened for the band Chicago in front of 15\,000 people.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

While embracing the present\, “Growth Lines” also hearkens back to the brashness of the band’s 2008 self-titled debut album and proves that music is always better with friends. They’ve recruited heavyweight performers G Love\, Tropidelic\, Bumpin’ Uglies and Indubious to add flavor and texture to the soundtrack’s 11 or so tunes. Showcasing the veteran band’s unique ability to write songs that tug at our heartstrings while keeping our feet moving Growth Lines has something for every JWP fan\, new and old alike. \nFeed the Dog is an eclectic and action-packed\, experimental jam-grass act. The midwest based 4-piece masterfully blends soul-pleasing songwriting rich in imagery and storytelling with a genre bending\, shake-your-hips\, instrumental flair. Their high energy performances are driven by the unique and progressive approach of each player: imaginative melodies with graceful ambiance skillfully crafted on the violin\, tireless beats both dynamic and soulful confidently assembled on the drums\, driving low end with finesse and intention forged on the bass guitar\, and unique approach to playing the acoustic guitar blending fast picking bluegrass runs with the strength of blues and rock to evoke an emotional contrast between melancholy and hopeful. \n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook AND LADDER THEATER \n\nDoors 7:00pm :: Music 7:30pm \n\n21+\n\nGA: $12 ADV / $17 DOS \n\n\n COVID-19 Policies\n	\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nJohn Louis ‘CD Release’\nwith Bad Posture Club & Jon Rodine\n—- \nJohn Louis‘ latest album “For Everyone (Especially You)” will be officially released January 22\, 2024. This album includes two singles that Louis recorded with producer Shane Leonard and released in 2021\, and 10 new tracks recorded with co-producer Dex Wolfe in 2023. The story arc of the album is solid. The first few songs paint the picture of a life lived\, maybe not so well. The rest of the album pulls us through a journey of decline\, despair\, resignation\, death\, and the aftermath. Among the highlights are Roy Orbison-esque version of “I Wish I Remembered You”\, “Another Day”\, which some say sounds like a mix of Crazy Horse and the Replacements\, and “Wake Me Up”\, which has a devistativing slow build and instrumental arrangement. The album features the contributions of a strong bench of talented musicians\, including Siri Undlin\, Hannah Hebl\, Jimmy Johnson\, Clifton Nesseth\, Mark Ettinger\, Robbie Weisshaar\, Bryan Hanna\, Jeremy Boettcher: bass (tracks 2\, 4) Ben Lester\, Sam Kassirer\, Shane Leonard and Dex Wolfe.\n \n\nBad Posture Club is a Minneapolis-based folk duo made up of Maren Day and Morgan Kavanagh. Their songwriting explores themes of home-places\, memory\, and family\, finding inspiration in the strange relationship between human softness and the unyielding societal structures we both participate in\, and push against. When reinterpreting traditional folk songs\, they carve out space and agency for queer voices. Purposefully open and sparse\, they craft intricate and experimental harmonies with their two voices\, banjo\, guitar\, and sometimes a 100 year old pump organ. Bad Posture Club invites the listener to hear the power in quiet\, intimate music\, and offers warmth and reflection through song.\nJon Rodine is a singer and songwriter based in Minnesota. Drawing on sources like Dan Penn\, Doug Sahm\, Bob Dylan and beyond\, his music is songdriven\, a blend of Americana\, groove-oriented rock’n’roll and country soul. His latest album “Last Star”–his first collection of original material–has been getting notice around the country. “Eleven songwriting gems” says Mondophonic.com\, but “his strongest asset is his voice”. “Authentic\, unpretentious…funky\, heartbreaking”\, said Ellen Stanley\, in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

On February 2\, 1959\, Buddy Holly\, Ritchie Valens and JP Richardson (the Big Bopper) performed at The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake\, Iowa. The plane crash that occurred hours later changed music history forever.  Holly\, Valens and Richardson were killed in the crash.  They had been on a flight to Moorhead\, MN.  Young Dion DiMucci was broken-hearted.  The nineteen-year-old had lost some dear friends\, but the scheduled performance in Moorhead wasn’t canceled.  Dion took the stage in Minnesota along with a new\, unknown artist\, fifteen-year-old Bobby Vee of Fargo\, ND.  A call had gone out on radio stations in the Fargo/Moorhead area looking for local talent replace the deceased superstars.  Vee answered the call\, and as they say\, the rest is history.     \nA Hard Day’s Night tells the entire story with tributes to artists who performed at the Surf Ballroom on February 2\, 1959 and the Moorhead Armory on February 3\, 1959. This faithful tribute features the songs made famous by Holly\, who was considered one of the foremost pioneers of rock and roll.  It has played the best venues including a performance on the main stage at the Surf Ballroom in February\, 2023 and the main stage at Moondance Jam in Walker\, MN.  This show commemorates the 65th anniversary of “the day the music died.”  It is a must-see for those who remember as well as a brand-new generation of fans.\n \nSET TIMES1:30pm – Set 1Intermission2:30pm – Set 2\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

You feel it’s something that the rest of the world needs to hear\, and how criminal it is that it isn’t spreading far and wide.” That sentiment could be related to the fact that the voices which Huber unearths are subtle and take more than a hurried listen to truly absorb. A person who appears reserved and matter-of-fact in everyday speech brings forth songs that are anything but that.\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

DESCRIPTION:EVENT DETAILS \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nThe Hook and Ladder Theater \n\nDoors 7:30pm :: Music 8:00pm \n\n21+ \n\nGENERAL ADMISSION $12 ADV / $15 DOS \n\n\n COVID-19 Policies\n	\n\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n EVENT DESCRIPTION \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\nNobool Presents \nThe Way Down Wanderers\nwith Cassandra Cole\n—- \n\nThe Way Down Wanderers are often referred to by fans as one of the hardest-working\, hardest-touring bands on the circuit today\, the 5-piece Illinois-based act not only proves that classification with their jam-packed tour schedule but also on stage every night\, with youthful exuberance and a lively stage show\, as reliable as it is infectious. High energy percussion\, mandolin\, guitar\, bass\, banjo and fiddle weave seamlessly together to create an experience for fans that has sold out shows across the UK and the United States\, filling the front rows with fans not just singing along to one tune\, but singing along to all of them. “Everybody says it. We’d be nothing without our supporters. Yeah\, they buy tickets and of course we love that\, but when we’ve been on the road for 10 hours and walk onto a stage road weary and we see familiar faces singing along\, it’s hard to describe. It’s everything\, really. There’s a whole lot of love there.”\n \nMusic enthusiasts are not the only ones taking note. Critics and tastemakers alike have awarded the young artists an impressive number of accolades ranging from official showcases at AmericanaFest (2018) and International Bluegrass Music Association (2016) to Whitstable UK Session of the Year (2017)\, a BBC Scotland Session (2017) as well as Finalist\, International Song Writing Competition (2015 & 2016)\, Chicago’s Best Emerging Artist\, Deli Magazine (2014) and Songpickr’s Best Songs Spotify Playlist (2016) among others. The young men are no strangers to the festival circuit either\, having played major National and Regional Festivals such as Merlefest\, Summer Camp\, Red Wing Roots Music Festival and Saskatchewan Jazz Fest all across the United States\, Canada and the UK. The band has also graced the stage of coveted venues such as Bluegrass Underground (TN)\, The Fox Theater (CO)\, Park West (IL)\, The Vogue (IN) The Station Inn (TN) The Gramercy Theater (NYC)\, and countless others.\n \n\n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Women’s Day Music Fest\nA celebration of women and gender-expansive MN musicians with Spit Takes\, MAYDA\, Jillian Rae\, Atim Opoka\, Host Krista Wax\, and more! \n\n\n—\n\nCelebrate International Women’s Day at The Hook! ‘Power Up! is a celebration of women and gender-expansive MN musicians’ with performances by Spit Takes\, MAYDA\, Jillian Rae\, Atim Opoka\, Host Krista Wax of KFAI & more! 2 stages. Multiple artists. Get tickets NOW! Presented by ‘The Hook\, MSP Sound\, and KFAI.org.—Atim Opoka (They/She) is a Ugandan-American songwriter\, vocalist\, composer\, producer\, and teaching artist who fuses Afro-pop and alternative beats while embracing the power of transformative storytelling. \nSpit Takes is a punk band out of Minneapolis formed in 2023. Lead singer VansAnn delivers wry\, unrepentant observations on misogyny\, sexuality\, and theology from a very personal perspective\, while the band serves up catchy melodies and driving beats. Spit Takes’ releases have drawn “…direct comparisons to one of the leading bands of the first wave punk scene\, X-Ray Spex\, led by vocalist Poly Styrene\,” and garnered enthusiastic reviews: “…big riffs and thunderous drumming paired with mosh-pit friendly hooks and choruses. At its core\, it’s a hilarious and defiantly crude\, feminist anthem delivered with a zero f*cks given aplomb.” \nJillian Rae is a fiercely unique spirit— a singer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist who cares more about making authentic music than about fitting into a tidy box. A classically trained violinist\, she has become a commanding international presence\, heading up her own critically acclaimed rock/pop band and creating powerful\, genre-bending songs. She also performs regularly with her traditional folk band Corpse Reviver and has toured extensively\, backing up Grammy-winning acts like The Okee Dokee Brothers. Lauded as a “triple threat on vocals\, fiddle\, and composition” (Star Tribune)\, Jillian Rae has become known for her soaring pop orchestrations and is an in-demand producer and session player. Along with her partner/co-producer Eric Martin\, she runs a home studio in Minneapolis. During the pandemic\, the studio became the hub for her weekly livestream performances and a space for her to write and record tracks for her next album. Never one to back down or give up\, Rae is a natural-born performer who has always found a way to make music. \nMAYDA“Her R&B-infused pop is undeniably fresh\, as she swings between pared-down acoustic struts\, full-band funkadelic blasts\, and electronic drumbeats and synth flourishes that would make the Purple One proud…. this prolific young soul singer is just beginning her journey\, but it’s hard not to anticipate big things from the petite yet larger-than-life pop songstress.” -Andrea Swensson \nMayda’s music has been featured locally as well as internationally. Numerous of Mayda’s songs have been on Rachael Ray show\, Good Morning America\, KFC youtube\, Reebok Seoul commercials\, Jersey Shore\, and cable networks such as Showtime and MTV. \nLaura Hugo is an Indigenous singer/songwriter from Teec Nos Pos\, AZ located in the Navajo Nation. She moved to Minnesota in 2010 to pursue her music and has since played all over the Twin Cities and around the Midwest. She has used her experiences with grief\, mental health and general confusion about her place in the world to write honest and relatable songs.

Their song catalog ranges from short and sweet Bill Monroe to here and now Lil Nas X. As well as catchy originals like “Time Machine” and long renditions of Grateful Dead classics. https://www.buffalogalaxy.com/ \n\n \nDang Ol Tri’ole couple sets of brothers and a childhood friend that love playing music and entertaining. Our unique experiences\, and common bonds\, have helped us spawn our own sound that borrows from an array of styles including: Traditional Folk\, Progressive Rock\, Salsa\, Blues\, Ska\, Gypsy\, and Classic Rock. Four-part vocal harmonies\, tight instrumental interplay\, high-energy performances\, and providing a great friggin’ time is what we do. https://www.thedangoltriole.com/\nWhat the hell is a Tri’ole?\n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Always an anomaly among his country music peers\, Wayne’s uncompromising interpretation of the music he loves is in fact what defines him: steeped in traditional but never “retro;” bare bones but bone shaking; hardcore but with a swing. Like the comfortable crackle of a Wurlitzer 45 jukebox\, Wayne is the embodiment of genuine\, house rocking\, hillbilly boogie. \n	\n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n \n\n	\n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n \n \n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \nThis activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
