the Hook and Ladder Mission Room
Honky-tonk supergroup Western Centuries aren’t bound by any rubric to create their music, for they exist in a space between modern and retro country; drawing from Appalachian string-band music, Texas fiddle traditions, cowboy songs, and Delta blues, all woven together with a bit of classic R&B and of course, some rock’n’roll. For songwriters, Ethan Lawton (Zoe Muth and the Lost High Rollers) Jim Miller (Donna the Buffalo) and Cahalen Morrison, city life in Seattle’s diverse South End gives some urban landscape content to their songs, a rare element in country music. Western Centuries delivers a fresh take on the country music that draws as easily from modern R&B as it does George Jones.
