Kitchen Dwellers, the five piece, high energy psychedelic bluegrass band from Bozeman, Montana, hook-up with Old Salt Union, award winning bluegrass band from Illinois for a night of grass in Minneapolis!

“The Kitchen Dwellers, formed only three years ago in Bozeman, are quickly emerging as one of the best bluegrass bands in the country.”
Rich Ledoux – The Moose 95.1 FM

Kitchen Dwellers formed three years ago below the Bridger Mountains with the sizzle of afternoon breakfast and the warmth of Irish coffee brewing in the kitchen. What began as a trio, Shawn Swain, Joe Funk, and Kyle Shelstad began writing music and playing traditionals searching for originality and occasionally, other life forms. Torrin Daniels was quickly added on Banjo and the band began playing shows around Bozeman, Montana. They added Jesse Bulter on fiddle just in time to hit the road for Colorado and complete their sound.

The Kitchen Dwellers have shared the stage with high profile artists like Railroad Earth, Greensky Bluegrass, the Deadly Gentlemen, Head for the Hills , Town Mountain, Pete Kartsounes, and WhiteWater Ramble. The band has played many high profile venues in the west such as The Bluebird Theater, The Mishawaka Amphitheater, The Oriental Theater, and The Emerson Theater. They continue to master their sound, create original work, and foster their live performances.

Kitchen Dwellers have been accepted into three Telluride Bluegrass Band Competitions, and were voted as one of the top three bluegrass bands in the country by viewers through a video contest hosted by Ninkasi Brewing Co. and Northwest String Summit in Eugene, Oregon. In the winter of 2013 they won the Zoo Music Awards, a Montana Music Competition based on performance, originality, and popularity. They also were awarded “Best Local Band 2013” by the Magpie Awards.

“Old Salt Union has the groove and the chops of a great string band, balanced with infectious rock and roll energy. Their music occupies that sweet space between Old Crow folk and Yonder Mountain jam —
not a bad place to be for a band about to break.”No Depression

A great band is more than the proverbial sum of its parts, and in the pursuit of becoming something that can cut through the clutter of YouTube stars and contest show runner-ups, a great roots music band must become a way of life. Less likely to rely on production or image, they’ve got to connect with their audience only through the craftsmanship of their songs, the energy they channel on the stage and the story that brings them together.
