Katy is an acclaimed singer/songwriter/ukulele player who –with her band of professional musicians (all here in Twin Cities)– has crafted a new album that is generating critical raves, album and ticket sales. The only local full band show of the year for the Katy Vernon Band.
Her fan base are quick to point out the sheer musicianship of the band. The influences are broad but warmly familiar: classic-era 10,000 Maniacs, Brandi Carlisle come to mind. While the album’s musical roots/blues/swing and folk elements are upbeat and inspiring—what has struck a chord with many critics and fans are Katy’s lyrics: Personal and empowered. Her life story (including her inspiring story of recovery) is told in a clear voice.
Opening solo set by Robert Wilkinson.
If the Twin Cities had a Mount Rushmore Of Rock, then Mr. Wilkinson would rightfully take a spot. As a founding member and lead singer of the Flamin Ohs, he has been entertaining fans for decades. Whether with the Oh’s, The Snaps, or as a solo musician, he has been writing the soundtrack of our city for a lifetime.
Headlining set by Gini Dodds & The Dahlias.
Gini Dodds, chief songwriter for The Dahlias, has been inspired by The Who, Neil Young, The Kinks, The Band, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, The Pretenders, Lucinda Williams, The Hollies, The Byrds, Warren Zevon and The Raspberries to name a few. But it’s what she’s done with those influences that tells the real story.
The Dahlias are a Twin Cities super group bringing her vision to life.
