An evening of indie folk-rock, lovely singing and strumming, and sometimes jangly guitars.
Ice Palace is a five-piece indie folk-rock band from Minneapolis that has toured the country extensively playing with bands such as Cloud Cult, Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s, Jason Lytle, Say Hi, Ha Ha Tonka, and Wheat. The Village Voice has called them, “A band to watch”. They’re celebrating the release of their new EP The World’s Secret Powers on the venerable Minneapolis record label Korda Records on April 10th at The Hook and Ladder Theater.
Hailing from the musical landmark town that gave us the post-punk of The Replacements and Soul Asylum and the glam-funk of Prince, Minneapolis snow angels The Hang Ups offer twelve glowy, pensive pop songs on their second full-length release, So We Go. “We wanted to make this a classic album,” says guitarist/lead singer Brian Tighe. Well, they’ve succeeded. A year in the making, So We Go is song after song of enduring, genuine beauty — one of those rare “classic” albums that people want to listen to all the way through, over and over again.
BBGUN began in a sunny living room, over coffee, on a Friday morning that quickly turned into every Friday morning. Musicians and songwriters Al Church and Neal Perbix’s distinct styles matured over years of Minneapolis gigs, wove to form lyrics that are both contemplative and playful, and harmonies both sophisticated and singable. Complemented by Jeremy Hanson’s expert, easy drumming, their rock ‘n’ roll tunes sound best blasted from the speakers of a pickup truck. BBGUN’s solid debut album documents the anxiety and surprising joys of trading in late-night cigarettes for a kind of settling down.
Turn Turn Turn is a trio who have bonded over their mutual love of close harmonies and 60s and 70s-inspired country, folk and pop music to form an original Minnesota-based Cosmic Americana band.
