Soulful songwriting with a nod to the past and a head in the clouds. Friend Dog is the creative project of Vinnie Donatelle, fiddle player and vocalist of The Last Revel, that seeks to expand on prior efforts and find some new things. Friend Dog explores balance, the fleeting, the unspoken and the hopeful. Sometimes it’s an exploration of simple things like birds and squirrels and breakfast. ‘Tending A Timid Flame’ is Donatelle’s first solo effort and will be available October 18th.
At the intersection of Harry Smith’s Old Weird America – the songs of heartworn highways – and the tumult of today you can find the music of Luke Callen. The songs – equal parts tragic comedy and hopeless reverie – paint a picture of the places and people that make up his earthly home. A poet – a player – a folk singer – Luke has traversed his country unraveling tall tales – short tunes and all that’s hidden underneath.
From Eau Claire to Berlin, New York to Minneapolis, Adelyn Rose traces the outlines of movement and ephemerality. It’s a progressive sound in that it actually indicates progress, like tape threading through a cassette player or yarn through a spinning wheel, and it primes us to listen by the time Adelyn Rose vocalist Addie Strei arrives with a ghost story. As she moves through phases of sleeping and waking, pacing and dozing, her songs deepen the daydream, conjuring warmth and weight where there should be cold and empty space.
