The Firehouse Performing Art Center (FPAC) is brand new but executive director, Chris Mozena, has long been active in the Longfellow community as Music Director for Patrick’s Cabaret and presenting the award winning Longfellow, Roots, Rock and Deep Blues Music Festival. The Hook & Ladder Theater will feature a wide variety of its own original programming beginning mid-October 2016 including: Open Stage; Open House Series; Artist Curated Showcase; Minnesota Songwriters Residency Program; DIY Artist Educational Series.
Programmed Community Events
Every month FPAC will present a no-cost event at the Hook and Ladder designed to promote the diverse Longfellow and great South Minneapolis neighborhoods through interactive programs promoting the arts, community, education, health and volunteerism. Upcoming events are:
Sept—The LOLA Art Crawl After party & 1st Annual First Responders Chili Cook-off
Oct—Halloween Face painting for Trick-or-Treat Longfellow
Nov—2016 Election Night Viewing Event
Dec—Holiday Family Film Screening
Every week there is an Open Stage. The hours are published on our website. We provide a house backline: drums; guitars; amps; microphones—everything you need for a full band experience. All experience levels are encouraged to participate and perform. Open Stage is not restricted to just music. It is also a space for local story-tellers, poets and spoken word performers.
Open House Series
Every week we host a community gathering where local visual artists and music will combine for an evening of engaging entertainment. Musicians and vocalists and visual artists of experience levels are invited to participate.
Artist Curated Showcase Series
Every month we invite a different established local artist to guest curate a show aimed to present an eclectic mix of genres and experience levels. The Executive Director and staff work with artists to assemble, market and promote a cohesive, professional presentation that is a mix of established and emerging talent.
Minnesota Songwriters Residency Program
Several times a year we will solicit samples and submission from local songwriters for consideration. Selected artists will receive a stipend to assist them in creating challenging new work. They are invited to participate in all Hook & Ladder programming, either presenting their own curated show or supporting larger touring acts.
DIY Artists Educational Series
Presenting, in partnership with other Minnesota arts, educational and service organizations on a wide variety of subjects for both established and emerging artists of all types. Topics might include such important items as, intellectual property, publishing, copyright protection, book, and event marketing and promotion.
