Back in Africa Siama recorded hundreds of soukous dance hits and toured the world. Now based in Minneapolis, he’s become known for his fun rootsy songs, intricate acoustic guitar picking, transfixing mbira (thumb piano) and spirited vocals with harmonies by his partner Dallas Johnson.
Check out this PBS/TPT “Lowertown Line” program about Siama’s life and music.
SIAMA
Siama (a McKnight Fellow) received an MSAB grant to create his acclaimed 2016 release (RIVERS – from the Congo to the Mississippi) and an MRAC grant funded his new kids’ cd (The Land of Yangalele). Siama is on the COMPAS roster of teaching artists, he’s one of the first musicians featured on Hennepin County Library’s new MNSpin program, his song was chosen for The Current’s Song of the Week and he maintains a busy schedule performing at special events and hosting kids’ programs.
