Highlighting some of the Twin Cities’ best world music artists, exploring and expanding on their roots in Bengali, Turkish, and American blues traditions.
Julian Manzara Band is a jazz-rock fusion group led by guitarist, composer, and Minneapolis local Julian Manzara. The band is dedicated to performing Manzara’s dynamic, improvisation-driven music as well as the “baddest” tunes in jazz-fusion history. This includes the work of artists such as John Scofield, Santana, and Jeff Beck. The band’s performance in the 2017 Twin Cities Jazz Festival was praised by the Star Tribune.
Uskudar Eclectic Duo features Yigitcan Eryaman (Vocals, Guitar), Greg Herriges (Bouzouki). The duo performs Turkish & Balkan folk and popular tunes, progressive rock influenced originals and Indian subcontinental flavors.
Ritika Ganguly is a Minneapolis-based composer, anthropologist, and vocalist working in Bengali folk music. She has a deeply personal approach to interpreting the Baul genre of music and poetry, and has released two singles this year from her commissioned and acclaimed musical work Osthir. Her work brings disparate music styles, aesthetics, and disciplines, together, and invites adventurous audiences. She has performed widely, including at stages and venues in New Delhi, and locally, at the Cedar Cultural Center, Red Eye, Pillsbury House Theatre.
