Local songwriters Mother Banjo and Art Vandalay are proud to present their 10th annual “Big Fat Love” tribute show, bringing together some of the Twin Cities’ top Americana talent to celebrate John Prine’s 1/2 birthday.
This year’s event will feature performances by accordion virtuoso Dan “Daddy Squeeze” Newton, The Belfast Cowboys’ Terry Walsh, The Federales’ Ben Miller, The Roe Family Singers, and beloved local songwriters Katey Bellville, John Louis and Jon Rodine. Together these friends will perform songs from John Prine’s illustrious songwriting career that has spanned over 45 years, featuring some unique interpretations of some of Prine’s lesser known classics along with some of his more famous songs like “Angel From Montgomery,” “Paradise,” “Illegal Smile” and “Hello In There.”
One of the most celebrated songwriters still working today, Chicago-born John Prine has been covered by countless pop, folk and country artists, including Bonnie Raitt, Bon Iver, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, REM and the Everly Brothers. He just released The Tree of Forgiveness, his first original album in over 13 years.
