Support Live Performing Arts at The Hook and Ladder Theater!
Who We Are
The Firehouse Performing Arts Center (FPAC), and it’s Hook & Ladder Theater, began as an all-volunteer non-profit arts organization in September of 2016. Through the retrofitting and maintaining of the historic Firehouse (built in 1894) that the organization occupies in south Minneapolis, a unique performance space emerged and this fiercely independent and artist driven non-profit quickly has become a mainstay in the local Twin Cities’ arts scene.
What We’ve Done
The Hook currently hosts live performance art Wed-Sun each week, which includes both weekly and monthly community free music programming series’. The Hook has also launched (3) seasonal indoor/outdoor community music and arts festivals in the first year and will continue another (The Roots, Rock & Deep-Blues Festival) into its eighth season in 2018. The Hook hosts numerous Cd and book releases, dance recitals, theatrical performances and spoken word performances each month and has recently launched several artist residency programs. Through performance art, and in manifest recognition of our mission, we have proudly funded more than 2,000 artists in excess of $150,000.00 for their work, to date.
What We Need
For us to continue providing this unique home for local artists to hone their craft through live performance, and in order to present the sheer volume of performance events we are currently being asked to host, we need to immediately add several strategic staffing positions. Additionally, we need to build out our technical capabilities to include improved theater lighting, digital projectors and retractable screens to accommodate film arts and multi-media artists.
What We Will Do
Artists have articulated a clear need for this theater/space and the good work done on behalf of it. With your support today we can not only continue to provide this safe space for our local artists to create, perform and earn, we can also evolve our programming and technical capabilities with the procurement of much needed infrastructure.
